The opportunity
Arrow Uniforms is an established product business supplying uniforms and apparel to customers across New Zealand.

Its transactional accounting is already well covered by an offshore finance team, with Deloitte providing external accounting support and working alongside the business on its NetSuite programme.
What Arrow needs now is the layer above that.

The Finance Manager will improve the systems, data and financial processes behind the business, strengthen management reporting, and give the leadership team better information when making decisions about margin, inventory, cash, foreign exchange, capital expenditure and product economics.
Initially, the role will be heavily weighted towards improvement work. Over time, as those foundations are strengthened and the business continues to grow, the position will take broader ownership across management reporting, cash, treasury, forecasting and foreign exchange.

This is not a CFO role and it is not a transactional accounting role. It suits someone who enjoys getting into the detail, understanding how a product business works, and making the finance function more useful to the people running it.

The role
You will work closely with the CEO, owners and leaders across supply chain, production and sales.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Owning finance systems, workflow and process improvement, including working alongside Deloitte on the NetSuite programme.
• Improving the accuracy of bills of material, landed cost, inventory and the financial data sitting behind operational decisions.
• Producing timely, properly reviewed management accounts and useful reporting on performance, margin and cash.
• Providing analysis for decisions around pricing, investment, inventory, foreign exchange and capital expenditure.
• Taking loosely defined finance and systems problems, building a plan and carrying them through to a result.
• Working with Arrow’s offshore accounting team to improve the quality and consistency of what they produce.
• Progressively taking greater ownership of cashflow, working capital, treasury and foreign exchange as the role develops.

Who we are looking for
We are less concerned with your current job title than with what you have done. You may already be a Finance Manager or you may be an experienced management accountant ready for broader responsibility.

What matters is evidence that you have worked inside a product business where inventory, costing and margin have some complexity.
In particular, we will be looking for:

• Around five or six years of solid finance experience and strong technical foundations.
• Experience with inventory, bills of material, landed cost and margin in manufacturing, food production, apparel, engineering or another genuinely complex product environment.
• Evidence that you have improved an ERP, finance system or process rather than simply operated what was already there.
• Experience producing management information for owners or an executive team and adding useful analysis around it.
• The ability to take ownership of a project or problem without needing somebody else to scope every step first.

NetSuite experience is useful but not essential. Experience working with an offshore finance team, foreign exchange exposure and CA or CPA qualifications would also be advantageous.

Just as importantly, you will be low ego, comfortable working in the detail and genuinely curious about how the business makes money. You will need to be able to work across finance and operations, set priorities for yourself and communicate clearly with people outside finance.

Location and applying
The role is based at Arrow Uniforms in Silverstream, Upper Hutt. Five days on site is strongly preferred, with flexibility around start and finish times.
