Finance Officer

FINANCE OFFICER

The Finance Officer will support the Finance Manager in the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of the company. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, supporting reconciliations, monitoring payables and receivables, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Record and process financial transactions accurately and promptly.
• Prepare and maintain accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
• Assist with monthly and periodic financial reporting.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain proper accounting records.
• Support the Finance Manager with financial analysis and reporting.

2. Bank & Account Reconciliations

• Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of company bank transactions and balances.

3. Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Process supplier invoices and payment documentation.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and support collection activities.
• Maintain accurate records of payables and receivables.
• Ensure transactions are properly authorized and documented.

4. Tax & Statutory Compliance

• Support the preparation of VAT, WHT, PAYE and other statutory schedules.
• Maintain proper documentation for tax and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with tax filings, audits and regulatory reviews as required.

5. Budget & Cash Flow Support

• Assist in preparing and monitoring departmental budgets.
• Track actual expenditure against approved budgets.
• Support cash flow monitoring and preparation of cash flow reports.
• Highlight unusual expenditures or significant variances to the Finance Manager.

6. Internal Controls & Compliance

• Ensure financial transactions comply with company policies and approval procedures.
• Maintain proper supporting documentation for all transactions.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of internal financial controls.
• Identify and escalate financial discrepancies or control issues.

7. Audit & General Finance Support

• Provide documentation and schedules required for internal and external audits.
• Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records.
• Support the Finance Manager with other financial and accounting assignments.

Key Competencies

• Good understanding of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work with ERP/accounting software.

• High level of integrity and confidentiality.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced oil & gas environment.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
• ICAN, ACCA, ACA or other relevant professional qualification is an advantage.
• Relevant accounting or finance certifications will be considered an added advantage.

Work Experience

• 3–5 years of relevant finance and accounting experience.
• Experience in the oil & gas, petroleum, energy, or related industry is preferred.
• Demonstrable experience in reconciliations, financial reporting, payables/receivables and statutory compliance.
• Experience using accounting/ERP systems is an advantage.
