About the role
The Finance Officer is responsible for the day-to-day finance function at Able Axcess, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, monthly journals and management accounts, and the GST, PAYE and FBT compliance that keeps the company compliant with the Inland Revenue Department. Beyond running these core accounts, the Finance Officer provides accurate data and reporting to support the General Manager's budgeting, forecasting and planning work, and helps identify practical improvements to day-to-day finance processes.
Key responsibilities
- Processing accounts payable: coding and entering supplier bills, running the weekly payment cycle for local suppliers and staff contractors, and monitoring direct debit/automatic payment suppliers
- Processing accounts receivable: approving and exporting job invoices from Simpro to Xero, ensuring correct coding and job matching, and following up overdue customer accounts
- Processing payroll, including staff allowances, leave, KiwiSaver and PAYE deductions
- Preparing and filing GST and PAYE (employer) returns with Inland Revenue within statutory deadlines
- Reconciling all bank accounts and investigating unusual transactions
- Completing monthly journals and month-end close-off (includes: accruals, prepayments, depreciation, stock adjustments) in line with the month-end process
- Overseeing month-end stock processes: confirming purchase orders are receipted, reviewing the stock required report, and checking and approving stocktakes
- Producing monthly and annual financial reports and management accounts accurately and on time
- Supporting the annual budget-setting process and helping monitor performance against budget through the year
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance systems, processes and controls
About you
- A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or finance (for example a diploma or degree), or equivalent hands-on experience across the full accounts cycle
- Proven hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, GST/PAYE compliance and month-end close
- Sound working knowledge of Xero or similar cloud accounting software
- Reasonable commercial awareness, with the ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in financial data and flag them promptly
- A keen eye for detail and good time management to meet routine deadlines (payroll, GST, PAYE, month-end)
- Good problem-solving skills and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work constructively with the General Manager and wider team
- Professional and discreet in handling payroll and personal staff information
