What they need

Purpose of the role

The Finance & Operations Manager will be a key member of the senior management team, reporting to and working closely with the General Manager as a complementary senior leader within the Club.

The role will bring stronger financial management capability into the organisation - establishing robust budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, commercial analysis and financial controls - while also taking ownership of agreed business operations, systems and improvement projects.

The successful candidate will turn financial data into clear management insight, helping the General Manager and Board understand performance, make better decisions and support sustainable growth. They will also provide practical senior management capacity, operating with a high degree of autonomy and helping the Club become more efficient, accountable and commercially informed.

Key responsibilitiesFinancial management & planning

· Lead the annual budgeting process, working with the General Manager and departmental leads to prepare a robust budget for Board approval.

· Maintain rolling forecasts and cashflow forecasts, identifying emerging risks, pressures and opportunities.

· Produce timely monthly management information, including actual performance against budget and forecast.

· Investigate significant variances and provide clear commentary, insight and recommended actions.

· Develop meaningful analysis of revenue, costs, margins and profitability across the Club's principal activities.

· Support pricing, investment, staffing and other commercial decisions with appropriate financial analysis and business cases.

· Develop proportionate financial controls, processes and reporting disciplines across the Club.

Finance function & external accountants

· Oversee and support the Club's day-to-day finance administration and bookkeeping function.

· Act as the principal day-to-day liaison with the Club's external accountants, Ensors.

· Ensure accurate and timely information is available for statutory accounts and other external reporting requirements.

· Drive effective use of Xero and other relevant systems, improving the quality and efficiency of financial processes.

· Work constructively with existing finance staff, building capability and clarity rather than duplicating day-to-day bookkeeping.

Business & operational management

· Work alongside the General Manager in the effective management of the Club and take ownership of agreed operational and business responsibilities.

· Help ensure appropriate management systems, processes, controls and accountabilities are in place across the organisation.

· Work with departmental managers and team leaders to improve efficiency, accountability and commercial performance.

· Help managers understand their budgets, staffing costs and key performance measures, and support them in managing against these.

· Lead or support agreed business improvement, systems and development projects.

· Provide senior management cover and decision-making support where appropriate.

Management information & Board support

· Develop, with the General Manager, a concise and useful monthly management reporting pack for the Board.

· Present financial and operational information in a clear, accessible and commercially useful way.

· Highlight trends, risks, opportunities and areas requiring management attention.

· Provide analysis to support the Club's strategic planning and future development.

Leadership

· Act as a trusted and constructive partner to the General Manager, bringing a complementary financial, analytical and operational perspective.

· Manage and develop direct reports effectively and support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

· Build strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, members, Board members and external advisers.

· Deputise for the General Manager in agreed areas when required.

Person Specification

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who enjoys being close to the business, not simply reporting the numbers after the event. The right person will be financially strong, commercially curious, comfortable working across functions and motivated by the opportunity to help develop a distinctive member-owned organisation.

Essential experience & capabilities

· Strong practical financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and management reporting.

· Ability to interpret financial information and turn it into clear commercial insight and practical recommendations.

· Experience in management accounting, finance business partnering, financial control or a comparable commercially focused finance role.

· Strong general business understanding and an interest in operations beyond the finance function.

· Experience of managing people and working effectively with non-financial managers.

· Confidence to take ownership, make decisions and operate with a good degree of autonomy.

· Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.

· Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-financial audiences.

· Confidence using accounting and business systems; experience of Xero or comparable software.

· A pragmatic, hands-on and collaborative approach.

Desirable

· ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, or progress towards one.

· Alternatively, substantial relevant qualified-by-experience financial management experience.

· Experience in leisure, hospitality, sport, membership, charity/not-for-profit or another multi-revenue-stream organisation.

· Experience improving financial systems, controls, processes and management reporting.

· Experience working with a Board, trustees or non-executive directors.

· Experience supporting organisational growth, change or business improvement.

The opportunity

For the right person, this role offers considerably more breadth and influence than a conventional finance position. You will have visibility across the whole organisation, work directly with the General Manager and Board, and have the opportunity to shape both the financial management framework and wider business processes of the Club.

As Norfolk Snowsports Club develops, the scope of the role can develop with it. We are looking for someone who is excited by that opportunity: a person who wants to understand how the Club works, help it grow sustainably and make a visible difference.

Pay: £42,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
