About Unison

Unison is a for-purpose organisation that works to reduce disadvantage and social exclusion for over 3,500 people who need social or affordable housing, or who are homeless or at risk of homelessness each year. We believe that housing is the foundation on which to build a life of value but that a good life takes more than just housing - it takes place in a community. We’re also committed to building a thriving community internally for the people that work with us and we’re proud to offer contemporary people programs and benefits in line with our values.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance Team Lead to lead and oversee a team of Finance Analysts and Accounts team members while supporting the financial performance and operational success of the organisation.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, you will be responsible for maintaining the financial health of the organisation through effective financial management, reporting, compliance, forecasting, and commercial analysis. You will provide leadership and direction to the Finance team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day finance operations and strategic initiatives.

A key component of this role is partnering with business leaders to provide financial insights that support decision-making, business growth, and operational performance. You will make a significant contribution to financial modelling, business case development, scenario analysis, and project work, helping to evaluate opportunities, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.

The successful candidate will be able to translate complex financial and accounting information into clear, practical insights for non-financial stakeholders and build strong relationships across all levels of the business.

This is a 12-month fixed-term SCHADS Level 6 position based at our Melbourne Head office with a salary of approximately $115,000 per annum (plus super and leave loading).

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong systems aptitude and the ability to confidently navigate complex financial systems and processes.
  • Highly organised and accountable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with non-finance stakeholders, explaining complex accounting matters in simple, practical terms.
  • Experience monitoring and managing compliance and reporting requirements.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate and Power Apps) and data management practices will be highly regarded.
  • GreenTree ERP experience is desirable however not essential.
