Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Financial Analyst to support the development of a conceptual-level economic and financial model for a mining project.
The primary responsibility of this role will be to develop an integrated financial model incorporating project production assumptions, revenues, operating costs (OPEX), capital expenditures (CAPEX), taxes, working capital, financing assumptions, and other relevant economic parameters.
The model will be used to evaluate the economic viability of the project and will include key financial indicators such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), payback period, and project cash flow.
The Financial Analyst will also support the preparation of projected Profit & Loss (P&L), Cash Flow Statement, and Balance Sheet, which are part of the project deliverables.
This position is particularly suited to candidates with experience in mining, natural resources, infrastructure, energy, or other capital-intensive projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an integrated conceptual-level financial model for a mining project, primarily using Microsoft Excel.
- Integrate project assumptions including production schedules, commodity prices, recoveries, revenues, CAPEX, OPEX, royalties, taxes, working capital, and other relevant economic parameters.
- Calculate key project economic indicators, including:
- Net Present Value (NPV)
- Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
- Payback Period
- Project and equity cash flows
- Prepare projected financial statements, including:
- Profit & Loss Statement (P&L / Income Statement)
- Cash Flow Statement
- Balance Sheet
- Develop annual project cash-flow forecasts over the expected Life of Mine (LOM).
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses for key project variables such as commodity prices, production, CAPEX, OPEX, recovery, and discount rates.
- Support the evaluation of alternative project development scenarios and provide financial insights to the technical and project management teams.
- Review financial and technical assumptions received from engineering disciplines and ensure their appropriate integration into the financial model.
- Clearly document model assumptions, calculations, inputs, outputs, and key financial results.
- Prepare tables, charts, and summaries for inclusion in the project's conceptual technical and economic report.
- Work collaboratively with mining, processing, infrastructure, environmental, and project management professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing financial models and project economic evaluations.
- Strong understanding of NPV, IRR, discount rates, cash flow modeling, and investment evaluation.
- Good understanding of the interaction between P&L, Cash Flow Statement, and Balance Sheet.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including development of structured and auditable financial models.
- Experience with CAPEX and OPEX analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical and operational information and translate it into financial assumptions.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to clearly present financial results and explain model assumptions to technical and non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in mining project evaluation, mining finance, project finance, or natural resources.
- Experience developing financial models for conceptual studies, Scoping Studies, Preliminary Economic Assessments (PEA), Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS), or similar project evaluations.
- Familiarity with mining concepts such as Life of Mine (LOM), production schedules, processing recoveries, commodity pricing, royalties, sustaining CAPEX, closure costs, and operating costs.
- Experience performing sensitivity, scenario, and risk analyses for capital-intensive projects.
The ideal candidate will combine strong financial modeling capabilities with an understanding of project economics and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.
