Financial Analyst

The role requires strong financial analysis, structured thinking and an interest in startups, emerging sectors and technology-enabled businesses.

Key ResponsibilitiesInvestment Evaluation

• Review pitch decks, business plans, financial statements and fundraising proposals.
• Conduct preliminary screening of investment opportunities.
• Assess business models, revenue drivers, unit economics, market potential and scalability.
• Evaluate the strength of the founding team, competitive position and principal business risks.
• Prepare screening notes and recommendations for the investment team.
• Maintain an organised pipeline of prospective investments.

Financial Modelling and Valuation

• Build and review integrated financial models for startups and growth-stage companies.
• Analyse historical performance and management projections.
• Develop revenue, cost, cash-flow and funding requirement forecasts.
• Perform valuation using appropriate methods, including discounted cash flow, comparable companies, precedent transactions and venture-capital methods.
• Prepare dilution, ownership and capitalisation-table analyses.
• Calculate investor returns under different financing and exit scenarios.
• Conduct sensitivity and scenario analysis on key assumptions.
• Clearly distinguish management assumptions from independently developed estimates.

Commercial and Market Research

• Research industries, market size, growth trends and competitive dynamics.
• Evaluate total addressable, serviceable and obtainable markets.
• Analyse customer segments, pricing, distribution and market-entry strategies.
• Benchmark target companies against relevant competitors and comparable businesses.
• Identify regulatory, technological and macroeconomic factors affecting an investment.
• Prepare concise sector notes and market maps.

Due Diligence

• Support financial, commercial and operational due diligence.
• Review financial statements, management information, bank records and tax information.
• Examine revenue quality, customer concentration, gross margins, working capital and cash burn.
• Test key operating assumptions against available evidence.
• Identify inconsistencies, missing information and potential risks.
• Maintain due-diligence request lists and document trackers.
• Coordinate with legal, tax, technical and industry advisers.
• Summarise findings and unresolved matters for the investment team.

Investment Committee Support

• Prepare investment memoranda, valuation summaries and presentation materials.
• Present analytical findings clearly to senior investment professionals.
• Support the preparation of investment-committee meetings.
• Document key assumptions, risks, mitigations and return scenarios.
• Incorporate feedback and update analysis as new information becomes available.
• Maintain appropriate records of investment decisions and supporting analysis.

Transaction Support

• Assist with term-sheet analysis and transaction structuring.
• Model pre-money and post-money valuations, liquidation preferences, anti-dilution provisions and employee-option pools.
• Analyse the effect of convertible instruments and future funding rounds.
• Support management reference checks and stakeholder discussions.
• Coordinate transaction documentation and closing requirements with relevant teams.
• Verify that final economic terms are reflected accurately in the financial model.

Portfolio Monitoring

• Collect and analyse monthly or quarterly portfolio-company reports.
• Track revenue, margins, cash burn, runway and operating performance.
• Compare actual results with budgets and investment-case assumptions.
• Monitor fundraising requirements, milestones and material risks.
• Maintain portfolio valuation and performance records.
• Prepare portfolio-review reports for management and investors.
• Flag performance concerns and funding needs promptly.

Fund and Investor Reporting

• Support fund-level performance analysis and reporting.
• Assist with calculations of invested capital, fair value, realised returns and unrealised returns.
• Calculate and monitor metrics such as IRR, MOIC, DPI, RVPI and TVPI.
• Reconcile portfolio and fund data with finance and administration records.
• Prepare analysis for investor reports and internal management reviews.
• Maintain confidentiality of investor, portfolio and transaction information.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Engineering or a related discipline.
• MBA in Finance, Chartered Accountant qualification, CFA programme participation or a comparable qualification is preferred.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, corporate finance and valuation.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and spoken English.

Experience

• Approximately 1–4 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, transaction advisory, equity research, corporate finance or financial modelling is preferred.
• Experience analysing startups or growth-stage companies would be advantageous.
• Candidates with strong internship experience in investment analysis may also be considered.
