What they need
About MEGA NHS
MEGA NHS is an Auckland-based manufacturer specialising in softgel capsules and gel candy dietary supplement products. With a strong focus on product quality, manufacturing standards and business growth, we work with customers across New Zealand and international markets.
We are now looking for an experienced and highly capable Finance Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day finance function and support the company’s cost-control and commercial decision-making activities.
About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on position with broad responsibility for the company’s finance function. The successful candidate will be expected to independently manage the majority of day-to-day financial activities—from transaction review, reconciliations and payments through to month-end closing, management reporting, cash-flow planning, compliance and cost analysis.
We are specifically looking for someone who has previously worked in a lean finance team or independently managed most aspects of a company’s finance function. This is not an entry-level position and would not suit a candidate whose experience has been limited to a narrow area such as accounts payable, accounts receivable or basic bookkeeping.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working at both operational and management levels: personally completing essential finance tasks while also providing accurate financial information and practical commercial advice to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Financial Management
- Take ownership of the company’s day-to-day finance and accounting operations.
- Independently manage or oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, expense claims, payments and bank reconciliations.
- Review accounting entries and maintain accurate general ledger and supporting records.
- Manage monthly, quarterly and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, management accounts and cash-flow reports.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare short-term and long-term cash-flow forecasts.
- Manage payment schedules and ensure that transactions are properly authorised.
- Maintain financial policies, approval procedures and effective internal controls.
- Ensure that financial records and confidential information are properly maintained.
Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and investigate significant variances.
- Analyse revenue, expenses, margins, profitability and cash-flow trends.
- Provide management with clear financial insights and practical recommendations.
- Support pricing, purchasing, investment and operational decisions with relevant financial analysis.
- Identify financial risks and raise issues with management promptly.
Cost Control
- Assist with developing and maintaining effective cost-control processes.
- Monitor key costs, including raw materials, inventory, labour, logistics, production expenses and overheads.
- Compare actual costs against budgets, forecasts or expected costs.
- Investigate cost variances and identify the underlying causes.
- Work with purchasing, production, operations and other teams to improve cost efficiency.
- Monitor product, customer or departmental margins where applicable.
- Identify unnecessary spending, process inefficiencies and potential savings.
- Recommend practical cost improvements without compromising product quality or operational requirements.
Tax, Audit and Compliance
- Ensure that tax returns, annual returns and other statutory obligations are completed accurately and on time.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisers, banks and government agencies.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax reviews and other compliance activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, company policies and legal obligations.
- Maintain appropriate supporting documents for financial transactions and compliance purposes.
Team and Business Support
- Supervise or support junior finance staff where applicable.
- Review work completed by other finance team members and ensure deadlines are met.
- Work closely with senior management and operational departments.
- Provide guidance on purchasing, expense, payment and approval procedures.
- Improve financial processes, reporting systems and internal controls.
- Perform other finance-related duties as required by management.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Substantial practical experience in a Finance Manager, Senior Accountant or similar role.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing most or all aspects of a company’s day-to-day finance function.
- Strong hands-on experience covering transaction processing, reconciliations, month-end closing, financial reporting, cash-flow management and compliance.
- Experience working in a small or lean finance team where the role required both detailed accounting work and management-level reporting.
- Ability to work independently without relying on a large finance team to complete core responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting and cost analysis.
- Ability to identify problems, investigate discrepancies and implement practical solutions.
- Advanced Excel skills and sound experience with accounting software.
- High levels of accuracy, integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A relevant qualification in accounting, finance, commerce or a related discipline.
Preferred Experience
- CA, CPA, ACCA or another recognised professional accounting qualification.
- Experience in manufacturing, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, food production or another product-based business.
- Experience with inventory accounting, manufacturing costs, product costing or margin analysis.
- Experience supervising junior accounting or finance staff.
- Knowledge of New Zealand accounting, tax and company compliance requirements.
- Ability to communicate in both English and Chinese would be an advantage.
The Candidate We Are Looking For
We are looking for a mature, dependable and hands-on finance professional who takes full ownership of their work.
The successful candidate should be comfortable handling detailed daily accounting tasks personally, while also being able to complete month-end reporting, manage cash flow, analyse costs and advise management. They must be able to prioritise effectively, follow issues through to completion and operate with limited supervision.
Candidates whose experience is primarily junior, highly specialised or dependent on a large finance team may not be suitable for this position.
Key Performance Measures
- Accuracy and timeliness of month-end closing and financial reporting.
- Reliability of cash-flow forecasts and working-capital management.
- Effective management of receivables, payables and payment schedules.
- Timely completion of tax and statutory obligations.
- Quality of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- Identification and delivery of cost savings and margin improvements.
- Effectiveness of financial controls and compliance procedures.
- Quality of financial information and advice provided to management.
