Financial Controller

About the role

You will control the finance function end to end — the ledger, the transactional processing across AP, AR and payroll, the control environment, the financial model, and the reporting that goes to management, board, financiers and government agencies. External providers and additional headcount will be brought in around you to handle day-to-day transactional volume, so your time is spent directing, controlling and improving the function. A portion of the role is strategic: using the data the business generates to produce real insight and practical, actionable recommendations that shape decisions across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Operate as a largely autonomous finance leader with full control over the function's outputs and decisions and a strategic seat at the table
• Own and control AP, AR, payroll and the general ledger, through to month-end close, the integrated financial model, and the annual statutory audit
• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of finance systems and processes, and turn the resulting data into concrete, actionable recommendations that drive decisions across the business
• Own the cashflow forecast and associated reporting and sensitivity analysis, compliance, and working capital across debtors, creditors and unbilled revenue
• Assist in the production of the monthly board and management pack, compliance certificates, and all reporting owed to government authorities
• Build detailed revenue, costing and margin reporting , feeding ongoing commercial negotiations
• Own the statutory compliance requirements inclusive of FBT, the Fixed Asset Register and R&D Tax Incentive claim, and related-entity reporting
• Direct the build-out of the finance team and any external support providers as the business scales, with clear delegations of authority and segregation of duties

About you

• CA or CPA qualified, with at least seven years post-qualification experience
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a finance function — from transactional processing (AP/AR/payroll) through to board and financier reporting
• Comfortable operating with real autonomy — directing external providers or a growing team on day-to-day transactional work
• Strong financial modelling capability: able to assume ownership of the fully integrated three-way model and other tools to manage cashflow forecasting on a short, medium and long-term basis
• A strategic mindset: confident shaping business decisions with data and insight
• A track record of implementing or improving finance processes and systems to generate real, actionable insight
• Experience in a capital-intensive business with familiarity and experience in dealing with external stakeholders including financiers
• Cloud accounting system experience (Xero preferred); advanced Excel
• Able to write clear, plain-English commentary for a Board or a financier, and stand behind it under questioning

We operate critical marine support and logistics infrastructure assets in regional Western Australia, servicing the offshore energy, resources and marine construction sectors. Having recently transitioned a second asset from construction into commercial operations, the business is now building the finance function to match the scale and opportunity of these assets.
