Dodson Group is looking for an experienced and proactive Financial Controller to play a key role in strengthening our finance function, improving systems and reporting, and helping shape how finance supports the wider business.

Reporting to the CFO, this is a key hands-on leadership role overseeing the full accounting cycle and leading an established finance team of four.

We are looking for someone who can operate confidently at Financial Controller level while still being willing to get into the detail when required. You will be equally comfortable leading month-end, improving an ERP process, developing your team or working through a financial issue that needs to be resolved.

The role

Financial Reporting & Month-End

• Lead and execute the complete month-end close process efficiently and accurately.
• Prepare and consolidate management financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement and cash flow reporting.
• Provide detailed variance analysis and meaningful financial insights to senior leadership.
• Manage the annual audit process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors and accountants.
• Maintain strong internal controls, policies and compliance with financial reporting requirements.
• Supporting statutory and compliance requirements as required.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Act as the internal champion for financial systems and ERP management (Epicor).
• Review existing financial systems and processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and opportunities for automation.
• Improve financial information accuracy, accessibility and operational efficiency.
• Work closely with operational teams to improve data integration and finance-related processes.

Team Leadership & Management

• Lead, mentor and develop an established finance team of four across accounting, AP, AR and payroll.
• Set clear priorities, goals and accountability across the finance function.
• Establish appropriate KPIs and support ongoing performance and development.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on accuracy and continuous improvement.

Strategic & Operational Support

• Partner with the CFO and Leadership Team to support budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning.
• Undertake financial analysis and projects to support business decision-making and growth.
• Operate with a high degree of autonomy and proactively identify business needs before they become urgent.

About you

You will ideally bring:

• 7+ years' accounting and finance experience.
• At least 3 years' experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or comparable senior accounting leadership role.
• Proven ownership of month-end close and management reporting.
• Strong technical accounting, reconciliation and financial-control capability.
• Strong ERP and financial systems knowledge. (Epicor is a plus)
• Demonstrated experience improving finance systems, processes and reporting.
• Proven people-leadership and team-development experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
• Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills.
• High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CA, CPA, CMA or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
• Power BI or similar data visualisation experience would be advantageous.

Most importantly, you will bring the technical capability, accuracy and judgement to strengthen the finance function while working collaboratively with the CFO, leadership team and wider business.
