Financial Controller

About the role

Pacific Business Trust (PBT) is seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to lead and strengthen the finance function. This is a rare opportunity to take genuine ownership, bring key accounting activity in-house, build internal capability, and provide trusted financial advice to the CEO and Board. This role will suit someone who is equally comfortable with technical accounting detail and the broader work of budgeting, forecasting, governance, strategy, and sound commercial decision-making. Your technical expertise, judgement and ability to build capability will directly support PBT's next stage of growth.

Key responsibilities

• Own month-end financial reporting, complex accounting, annual financial statement preparation, and audit readiness
• Support business planning and growth opportunities by providing practical financial insight, analysis and advice
• Manage and develop the existing Senior Accountant, strengthen processes and bring outsourced accounting activities in-house
• Lead organisational budgeting, cash flow forecasting, management reporting and financial risk monitoring
• Oversee expenditure, funding-related financial requirements, and advice on funding proposals
• Provide clear financial analysis and practical recommendations to the CEO and Board, while helping teams strengthen financial accountability

About you

• A recognised professional accounting qualification, preferably CA or CPA, or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience
• Direct experience preparing complete annual financial statements, resolving complex accounting issues and managing external audits
• Strong hands-on financial accounting, controls, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting skills
• Experience coaching accounting staff and improving reporting processes or finance systems
• Clear communication, sound judgement and the confidence to advise senior leaders while remaining willing to roll up your sleeves
