Financial Controller

Position Overview

A premier, confidential private investment firm is seeking an experienced and analytical Controller to oversee all aspects of financial management, fund accounting, operational accounting, and regulatory compliance.

The Controller will manage the day-to-day accounting operations of both the Management Company and its Investment Funds. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in investment accounting, tight internal controls, fund reporting, and tax oversight, with the agility to support strategic deal transactions and investor communications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fund Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for all active funds, co-investment vehicles, and SPVs in accordance with US GAAP.
• Prepare quarterly capital calls, distribution notices, and LP (Limited Partner) financial statements.
• Partner with external fund administrators, auditors, and tax advisors to manage annual financial statement audits and tax filings (K-1s, Form 1065s).
• Calculate and track fund performance metrics (IRR, TVPI, DPI, MOIC) and management fee/carried interest calculations.

2. Management Company Operations & Treasury

• Manage full-cycle operational accounting for the Management Company, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and expense allocation.
• Lead cash flow forecasting, treasury management, and capital call planning to ensure optimal liquidity across entities.
• Monitor budget vs. actual performance for management operations and deliver actionable financial insights to firm leadership.

3. Portfolio Management & Transaction Support

• Assist with financial due diligence and transaction execution for new portfolio investments, follow-ons, and divestitures.
• Review quarterly portfolio valuations and work with deal teams to validate valuation models and underlying assumptions.
• Monitor financial health, compliance, and reporting across active portfolio companies.

4. Internal Controls, Compliance & Tax

• Maintain and enhance internal accounting controls, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure regulatory compliance across state, federal, and relevant international jurisdictions (SEC compliance, Form ADV reporting support if applicable).
• Oversee tax planning, compliance, and reporting strategy alongside third-party tax consultants.

Candidate Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) strongly preferred.
• Experience:
• 7–12+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Direct experience within a private equity firm, venture capital firm, hedge fund, or family office (or Senior Manager level in Big 4 public accounting audit focused on Financial Services/Alternative Investments).

Technical Skills:

• Deep expertise in US GAAP for Investment Companies (ASC 946), capital call/distribution workflows, and fund structure accounting.
• Proficiency with fund accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Quickbooks) and advanced Excel financial modeling skills.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with LPs, auditors, and senior partners.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
