Financial Controller

Position Overview

The Financial Controller leads the company's finance and accounting functions, driving financial performance, cash flow management, cost control, credit management and regulatory compliance. The role partners with Management, Sales, Procurement and Operations to strengthen financial discipline, improve profitability and support business growth in the bleaching earth manufacturing and trading business.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management & Reporting

• Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and monthly management reporting.
• Analyse financial performance, identify variances and implement corrective actions.
• Drive profitability improvement through financial analysis and commercial recommendations.
• Provide timely financial insights to support Management's strategic decisions.

2. Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Manage cash flow, forex and financing requirements.
• Drive improvements in receivables, payables, inventory and working capital efficiency.
• Ensure sufficient liquidity to meet operational and business commitments.
• Develop and implement strategies to strengthen cash flow and optimise funding costs.

3. Credit Control & Collections

• Establish and enforce customer credit policies, credit limits and payment terms.
• Drive collection performance and reduce overdue receivables.
• Work with Sales to resolve payment disputes and manage high-risk accounts.
• Take timely action on credit exposure and potential bad debts.

4. Commercial Finance & Product Costing

• Drive product costing, pricing strategies, margin analysis and customer profitability.
• Evaluate the financial impact of raw material prices, freight, production costs and foreign exchange movements.
• Advise Management and Sales on pricing, contract negotiations and commercial risks.
• Identify margin improvement opportunities across products, customers and markets.

5. Manufacturing & Inventory Cost Control

• Drive cost control across raw materials, production, packaging, utilities and logistics.
• Analyse production yield, material consumption, wastage and cost variances.
• Improve inventory accuracy, valuation, turnover and stock management.
• Work with Procurement and Production to reduce costs and improve manufacturing efficiency.

6. Tax, Compliance & International Trade

• Ensure timely and accurate compliance with corporate tax, SST, withholding tax and statutory requirements.
• Manage financial and tax matters relating to import/export transactions and cross-border business.
• Monitor foreign exchange exposure, customs duties and international trade financing.
• Maintain accurate financial documentation and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

7. Internal Controls & Risk Management

• Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Identify and mitigate financial, operational and commercial risks.
• Lead external audit coordination and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

8. Leadership & Business Partnership

• Lead, develop and hold the Finance & Accounts Team accountable for performance and accuracy.
• Drive financial discipline and cost consciousness across all departments.
• Challenge business decisions where financial risks or profitability concerns arise.
• Deliver regular updates on cash flow, collections, margins, costs and financial risks.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements:

• Candidate must possess at least a Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field; ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent qualification preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in manufacturing or trading.
• Proven track record in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior role.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, working capital, costing and credit management.
• Good knowledge of Malaysian taxation, Transfer Pricing, SST and statutory compliance.
• Practical experience in manufacturing cost control, inventory management and profitability analysis.
• Knowledge of import/export transactions, foreign exchange and international trade financing is an advantage.
• Strong leadership, analytical, commercial and problem-solving skills.
• High integrity, accountability and attention to detail.
• Good command of English.
• Position is to be based in Ipoh, Perak.
