Xplora Search Group is partnering with an established, growing middle-market company in the Greater Philadelphia area to identify a Financial Controller who brings a strong combination of accounting, financial planning and analysis, and business partnership experience.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being involved in all aspects of finance, not just closing the books, but understanding what drives the business, helping leadership make decisions, and identifying opportunities to improve financial and operational performance. Our ideal candidate comes from a middle-market company where they've had broad responsibility across accounting and finance, rather than working in one specialized area within a large corporate finance department. This individual will work closely with executive leadership and play an important role in strengthening financial reporting, improving budgeting and forecasting, providing meaningful analysis, and supporting the company's continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Take an active role in the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and ongoing financial planning.
• Analyze financial and operational performance, helping leadership understand what's driving revenue, expenses, margins, and profitability.
• Partner with executive leadership and business leaders to evaluate performance, identify trends, and support important business decisions.
• Develop and improve financial reporting, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Prepare financial information, analysis, and reporting for executive leadership and ownership.
• Help improve the month-end close process, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency of the finance function.
• Support cash flow planning, working capital analysis, and other financial initiatives.
• Evaluate business opportunities, operational improvements, and special projects through financial analysis.
• Partner with accounting and operational teams to improve processes, systems, and financial visibility across the organization.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally including Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Finance, or similar leadership responsibilities.

Required Skills

• A strong accounting foundation, including financial statements, month-end close, and management reporting.
• Meaningful, hands-on experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and business performance reporting.
• Experience working in a middle-market business where responsibilities extend beyond traditional accounting.
• The ability to understand financial results, identify underlying business drivers, and communicate insights to leadership.
• Experience partnering with executives and operational leaders on financial and business decisions.
• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work independently in an evolving environment.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with executive leadership, ownership groups, or investors.
• Background in business services or other operationally complex industries.
• Experience supporting multiple business units or departments.
• Improving forecasting, reporting, financial systems, or processes.
• CPA designation.
