Financial Controller

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, analysis, and presentation of comprehensive financial reports in accordance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy in general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis.
• Manage all aspects of regulatory compliance accounting, including SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls, governmental reporting, and audit coordination.
• Supervise and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement and professional growth.
• Oversee cash management activities such as treasury management, accounts receivable/payable processing, and payroll administration.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls through effective SOX compliance procedures and maintain accurate records of financial transactions using accounting systems like Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar software.
• Conduct detailed financial analysis using Excel data analysis techniques to support budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting analysis, and strategic decision-making.
• Facilitate financial close processing by coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of all accounting entries and reconciliations.
• Maintain regulatory compliance by staying current on changes in financial regulations affecting nonprofit or governmental accounting practices.

Experience

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader with extensive knowledge of corporate accounting practices across diverse sectors including nonprofit or governmental organizations.
• Strong expertise in IFRS, GAAP, regulatory reporting standards, and technical accounting concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and general ledger reconciliation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage accounting teams effectively while implementing best practices in finance team management.
• Hands-on experience with financial software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar platforms; proficiency in spreadsheets for data analysis is essential.
• Familiarity with internal control frameworks like SOX compliance and experience managing audit processes is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of cost accounting analysis, budget development, forecasting techniques, and financial management strategies to optimize organizational resources.
• Excellent communication skills for clear financial report writing and presenting complex data insights to stakeholders at all levels.
