The opportunity

We're looking for an experienced, commercially minded Financial Controller to help drive our next stage of growth.

This is much more than a traditional financial reporting role. You'll take a leading position within our finance function, working directly with our Founders and Directors to influence business decisions, improve financial performance and help shape the future of Heatable.

You'll lead and develop the finance team, working closely with the team to ensure the day-to-day finances are in great shape while building the processes, controls and reporting needed to support a growing business.

From financial modelling and cash flow forecasting to assessing new products and services, you'll help us understand not just what the numbers say, but what we should do about them.

We're looking for someone who can move comfortably between the detail and the bigger picture: a technically strong accountant who understands the commercial realities of running a business, isn't afraid to challenge assumptions and enjoys finding better ways of doing things.

You'll have real ownership, direct access to the people making the big decisions and the opportunity to make a tangible difference.

What you'll be doing

Leading and developing the finance team

• Lead, support and develop the finance team, working in partnership with our current Finance Manager.
• Take ownership of the finance function, ensuring our day-to-day processes are accurate, efficient and fit for purpose.
• Coach and mentor the team members through their ACA studies over the next three years.
• Act as the ICAEW Qualified Person Responsible for Training (QPRT), subject to meeting ICAEW’s eligibility requirements and Heatable’s training arrangements.

Financial reporting and control

• Own the production of monthly management accounts, financial reports and key performance indicators, providing clear insight into business performance.
• Review, improve and document accounting processes, systems and financial controls.
• Oversee the annual accounts process, VAT returns, corporation tax compliance and the R&D tax claim.
• Ensure financial information is accurate, timely and reliable, giving the business confidence in its numbers.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, strengthen controls and make the finance function more efficient as we grow.

Commercial finance and strategic support

• Work directly with the Founders and Directors on budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and business planning.
• Monitor cash flow closely, providing regular forecasts, reports and scenario analysis to support informed decision-making.
• Evaluate the financial performance of existing products and services, as well as modelling the commercial potential of new opportunities.
• Analyse trends, margins, costs and performance to identify opportunities, risks and areas for improvement.
• Translate financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Challenge assumptions constructively and help the leadership team understand the financial implications of its decisions.

Helping us grow

• Build scalable finance processes that support Heatable's continued growth.
• Take a proactive approach to problem-solving, continuously looking for ways to improve how we operate.
• Balance hands-on financial management with forward-looking commercial thinking.
• Help establish the finance function as a trusted business partner, not simply a reporting service.

What we're looking for

You'll be a qualified accountant who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness, sound judgement and the confidence to take ownership.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Professional qualifications: ACA/FCA/ACCA/FACCA qualified, with at least five years' post-qualification experience in a similar role.
• Leadership: Experience leading, developing or mentoring finance professionals, with the ability to bring out the best in a team.
• Technical expertise: A strong understanding of management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial controls and statutory reporting.
• Commercial thinking: The ability to interpret financial data, understand business performance and turn analysis into practical recommendations.
• Systems and analytical skills: Experience using Xero and strong Excel skills, with the confidence to work with financial models and complex data.
• Ownership and organisation: The ability to manage your own workload, prioritise effectively and deliver accurate work in a fast-moving environment.
• Communication: The confidence to explain financial information clearly to colleagues at all levels, including non-financial stakeholders.
• A continuous improvement mindset: Someone who questions the status quo, spots opportunities and isn't afraid to make constructive changes.
• The right attitude: A collaborative, commercially curious team player who wants to contribute to an ambitious, growing technology business.

Experience in a fast-growing business would be particularly valuable, as would the ability to balance the practical demands of a hands-on finance role with the bigger strategic picture.

Most importantly, we want someone who takes pride in getting things right, enjoys working with people and wants to help build something special.
