Location: London – Hybrid Working

Salary: £80,000 – £100,000 + Benefits

Our client is an established and growing business group seeking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the accounting and financial reporting requirements of approximately 10 SME businesses, each with an annual turnover of circa £10m–£20m.

This is a senior, hands-on finance role offering responsibility for financial operations across multiple businesses, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls and the efficient delivery of accounting and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the accounting and financial reporting requirements of approximately 10 SME businesses.
• Manage the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Oversee month-end and year-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Manage financial reporting across multiple entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Oversee cash flow forecasting, budgeting and working capital management.
• Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, statutory reporting and tax requirements.
• Oversee VAT returns, corporation tax requirements and other financial compliance obligations.
• Coordinate statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls, accounting policies and reporting procedures.
• Monitor financial performance, investigate variances and provide analysis to senior management.
• Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations across the group.
• Manage and support accounting and finance team members.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting processes and efficiency.
• Work closely with directors and senior stakeholders to support commercial and strategic decisions.

Candidate Requirements

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, with substantial post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or in a similar senior accounting role.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience preparing and reviewing management and statutory accounts.
• Experience overseeing multiple SME businesses or working within a multi-entity group structure.
• Good understanding of UK accounting standards, financial controls and statutory compliance.
• Experience managing budgeting, cash flow forecasting and financial performance reporting.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Confident communicating directly with directors, business owners and senior management.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar.
• A hands-on, commercially aware approach with the ability to manage both operational and strategic responsibilities.
• Previous experience within an accountancy practice, outsourced finance environment or multi-company group would be advantageous.
