About us
Rigby is an established, owner-managed contractor working in building, electrical installation, fire and security, and facilities maintenance. Our clients include the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office, prisons, police, the NHS, schools, airports and large facilities management companies. We have held ISO 9001 since 2010, and many of our sites are security sensitive.
We are a business of around 40 people. You will report directly to the directors and play a key part in how the business runs.
The role
You will run the finance function up to the trial balance. An external provider prepares our management accounts, and you will work closely with them. You will also look after HR administration and compliance, and manage our Finance Assistant.

- Run the purchase, sales and nominal ledgers in Sage 50, and check the Finance Assistant's work.
- Prepare and authorise the weekly supplier payment run.
- Make sure sales invoices are raised in JobLogic on time, including staged applications for payment and retentions.
- Run credit control and keep aged debt under control.
- Reconcile supplier statements, bank accounts and company credit cards.
- Run weekly payroll in-house from engineer timesheets, checking overtime, travel and working-away pay against our payroll rules.
- Handle PAYE, pension auto-enrolment through Nest, and P11D.
- Submit monthly CIS returns and VAT returns under Making Tax Digital, including domestic reverse charge.
- Prepare monthly work in progress reports from JobLogic.
- Post month-end journals, accruals and prepayments, and give a clean trial balance to our management accounts provider each month.
- Prepare year-end working papers for our external accountants.
- Keep finance procedures and controls up to date.
HR and compliance (Ad Hoc Duties when required)
- Run HR administration in BrightHR, including starters, leavers, contracts, absence, holidays and right to work checks.
- Manage insurance renewals and track accreditation renewals with our compliance administrator.
- Support ISO 9001 management reviews.
- Keep the staff security clearance register up to date.
- Supply company and financial information for tenders and supplier forms.
- Act as Microsoft 365 administrator, with support from our IT provider.
- May include fleet administration and the vehicle tracker system.
