Core6 Talent is partnering with a rapidly growing, technology-driven organization in the financial services sector to identify an experienced Controller / Head of Accounting who thrives in complex environments and enjoys creating structure where it doesn't yet exist.

Our client is an innovative, well-capitalized business experiencing significant growth and expanding its operations, infrastructure, and geographic reach. With a strong financial position, ambitious growth plans, and an entrepreneurial leadership team, the organization is entering an exciting phase of its evolution.

As the business continues to scale, leadership is investing in the people, technology, and processes needed to support its next chapter.

About the Controller:

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced Controller who will build an accounting function from the ground up, with the resources, executive support, and financial upside to do it well!

You'll have the opportunity to lead major initiatives, including a comprehensive ERP implementation, the company's first Big 4 audit, establishing US GAAP-compliant accounting policies and reporting, complex multi-entity consolidations, and the development of a scalable accounting team.

You'll have the autonomy to build, the complexity to stay challenged, and the opportunity to see the lasting impact of your work. This is a true builder role, a "Player-Coach" type. You'll need to be equally comfortable developing strategy with executive leadership and rolling up your sleeves to work through the technical accounting details as the team is built out over the next year and beyond.

What You'll Be Responsible for as Controller:

  • Build & Scale the Accounting Function: Establish US GAAP-compliant accounting policies, processes, internal controls, reporting structures, and team capabilities to support rapid organizational growth.
  • Own Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting: Oversee the monthly close, general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Research and resolve complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, transaction classification, and other applicable GAAP requirements.
  • Lead Audit Readiness & Execution: Prepare the organization for its first comprehensive Big 4 financial statement audit, including evaluating historical accounting practices, addressing GAAP compliance gaps, developing supporting documentation, and serving as the primary contact with external auditors.
  • Lead an ERP Transformation: Evaluate, select, and implement a modern ERP platform, transitioning away from existing accounting systems while improving data integrity, reporting capabilities, and financial controls.
  • Manage Complex Accounting Structures: Oversee accounting across multiple legal entities, including consolidation assessments, intercompany transactions, eliminations, and specialized reporting requirements. Evaluate the appropriate accounting treatment of complex entity structures and transactions.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls within a highly regulated environment, ensuring alignment with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Modernize & Automate: Identify opportunities to leverage technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability without compromising financial integrity or oversight.
  • Own Operational Accounting: Remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting, technical accounting decisions, and financial reporting while developing the infrastructure and team to support future growth.
  • Partner with Leadership: Work closely with finance and executive leadership on business initiatives, expansion plans, and strategic decision-making, translating complex accounting matters into meaningful business insights.
  • Build for the Future: Design an accounting organization capable of supporting a significantly larger, more complex, and increasingly international business.

What We're Looking for in a Controller:

We're looking for an experienced accounting leader who has successfully built and scaled an accounting function and is excited to do it again. Someone who thrives in ambiguity, is comfortable creating structure where it doesn't yet exist, and has the technical depth to navigate complex accounting challenges independently.

This individual can think strategically while remaining hands-on as the team grows, balancing speed, accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Experience needed for the Controller:

  • Prior experience as a Controller, Head of Accounting, or established second-in-command within a growing accounting organization.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or similarly complex, highly regulated industries.
  • Strong technical US GAAP expertise , including revenue recognition, financial statement preparation, complex consolidations, intercompany accounting, and the ability to independently research and resolve nonroutine accounting matters.
  • Experience establishing accounting policies, evaluating GAAP compliance, and documenting technical accounting conclusions.
  • Experience preparing for and managing external financial statement audits, ideally including a company's first audit or transition to a Big 4 firm.
  • Hands-on experience leading ERP implementations or significant accounting systems transformations.
  • A background in high-growth, entrepreneurial, or rapidly evolving business environments.
  • Experience building accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting infrastructure rather than solely maintaining established operations.
  • Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements, complex legal entity structures, and associated accounting considerations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, business acumen, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • A genuine interest in modern technology, automation, and building efficient accounting operations.
  • CPA designation and a Big 4 public accounting foundation are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with complex financial structures, regulated financial services entities (FINTECH), and international accounting is particularly valuable.

Compensation & Benefits:

Our client is offering a competitive executive compensation package designed to attract and retain an exceptional accounting leader.

  • Base Salary: $230,000–$250,000
  • Performance Bonus: Initially 10%–15%, with potential for increased incentive opportunities as the business grows and its compensation structure evolves
  • Equity: Meaningful equity participation
  • Medical, Dental & Vision: Employer-paid benefits, including 100% employee medical coverage and partial dependent coverage
  • 401(k): Retirement savings plan
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Flexible Work Arrangement: Hybrid or remote, with periodic travel to Austin (Awesome new offices being built out in ATX!)

Other offers great for you!
