Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead and oversee the full spectrum of finance and accounting operations of EFS Group Bhd in Malaysia. This role is responsible for ensuring effective financial management, strong governance, statutory compliance and operational efficiency across all finance activities, including project-based accounting for solar EPC and renewable energy projects.

The Financial Controller will manage finance key functions and to provide strategic financial insights, project profitability analysis and funding support to the CEO and the Top Management to support business decisions and drive organizational growth.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical and results-driven, with the ability to lead and develop the finance team, strengthen internal controls, enhance processes and drive continuous improvement across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Support the CEO and top management to plan, develop and execute financial strategy (including developing (where necessary), evaluating and analysing financial models) in line with company's and EFS Group's overall strategy;
• Lead and manage all finance and accounts operations including but not limited to billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, including resource planning, team development and performance management;
• Responsible for on time and accurate financial reporting, financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, costing, audit and control, working capital and cash flow management;
• Able to effectively implement accounting policies and procedures;
• Manage monthly/yearly management reporting and financial reports, including variance and trend analysis to management;
• Responsible for preparing and reviewing annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and operating results;
• Manage all tax matters to ensure effectiveness and efficiencies;
• Oversee external and regulatory audit processes;
• Coordinate the preparation of the draft audited financial statements and preparation of financial information in the corporate annual report;
• Contribute to refinement of processes and procedures to improve financial accounting systems and procedures;
• Liaise with stakeholders including business partners, auditors, bankers, tax agents and company secretary.
• Other ad hoc corporate assignments may be required from time to time.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICAEW, MICPA). Chartered Accountant (Malaysia) status is preferred
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 to 5 years in a financial management or leadership role
• Prior experience in solar, renewable energy, EPC, construction or engineering is strongly preferred
• Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
• Strong knowledge of MFRS, the Companies Act 2016, Malaysian corporate tax, SST and e-Invoicing requirements
• Strong understanding of project costing, WIP accounting, revenue recognition (MFRS 15) and cash flow management in a project-based environment
• Proficiency in MS Office (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint), with advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
• Experience with AutoCount, SAP or other ERP systems
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with the team, senior management and external stakeholders
