Financial Controller - Transportation

Little Rock Farm Trucking is a family-owned trucking company that has been serving the transportation industry since 1989. Based in Walkerton, Ontario, with a yard in Okotoks, Alberta, we proudly serve customers across Canada and the United States.

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of our accounting and financial operations. This is primarily a hands-on position: you will personally complete much of the day-to-day accounting work, prepare financial reports, and manage cash flow while working directly with ownership on business decisions and future growth. You will also provide guidance to a small administrative team and work with maintenance on financial matters. We are looking for someone who enjoys doing the work and takes initiative

WHAT YOU'LL DO

· Perform and manage daily accounting, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, receivables, invoicing, and payroll-related work.

· Provide day-to-day guidance to a small administrative team while remaining directly involved in the accounting work.

· Prepare, analyze, and explain monthly financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements to ownership.

· Complete bank and account reconciliations; monitor cash flow and prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial controls.

· Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks Online, refine our recent transition, and improve accounting workflows.

· Prepare and review payroll, government remittances, year-end reporting, and T4s.

· Process and review maintenance invoices and payables; coordinate with maintenance on purchasing and expense records.

· Monitor equipment, fuel, repair, and operating costs; identify opportunities to improve profitability.

· Help ownership evaluate truck and trailer purchases, financing, and equipment replacement decisions.

· Coordinate with external accountants, lenders, legal counsel, and other advisors.

· Provide timely financial analysis, practical recommendations, and clear reporting to ownership.

· Maintain accurate records and support compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

· Build scalable systems and contribute to the company's long-term financial success.

· Handle other related financial and administrative duties as needed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

· Proven accounting and financial management experience, with strong analytical judgment.

· A practical, self-directed accountant who enjoys doing the work and can also guide a small team.

· Organized, accurate, trustworthy, and able to communicate financial information clearly.

· Strong QuickBooks Online and Excel skills; experience improving accounting processes.

· Experience with budgeting, cash flow, financial reporting, payroll, and internal controls.

· Transportation industry experience is preferred, but not required.
