Finish Carpenter / Millwork Installer

About the Role

Design Next Agency is a design-build company working on restaurant, café, retail, and other commercial interiors in New York City.

We are looking for an experienced Finish Carpenter / Millwork Installer with strong hands-on skills in wall paneling, cabinetry, trim, and custom millwork installation. We value accurate measurements, precise cuts, clean joints, and careful finishing.

This position involves hands-on installation at active construction sites across NYC.

Responsibilities

• Install decorative wall panels, cabinetry, shelving, trim, moldings, and other custom millwork.
• Measure, lay out, cut, scribe, and fit materials to suit actual site conditions.
• Produce clean corners, consistent gaps, aligned panels, and neat transitions between materials.
• Read installation drawings, take field measurements, and verify dimensions before cutting.
• Install and adjust doors, drawers, hinges, and cabinet hardware.
• Complete finish corrections and punch-list work.
• Coordinate with the site superintendent and project manager, and flag installation issues promptly.
• Protect finished surfaces and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on experience in finish carpentry or millwork installation.
• Ability to independently complete wall panel, cabinet, and trim installations.
• Confident use of saws, routers, nail guns, levels, and other carpentry tools.
• Strong attention to measurements, alignment, and finish quality.
• Reliable attendance and ability to travel to assigned NYC job sites.
• Ability to communicate measurements, installation questions, and safety concerns with the site team.

Preferred Experience

• Commercial interior projects, particularly restaurants and retail spaces.
• Custom or high-end millwork installation.
• Experience working with wood, plywood, MDF, veneers, and laminates.
