Position Summary

Wagner Ranch Services (WRS) is a civil site-work construction company performing a wide variety of work including road building, underground utilities, foundations, site grading, concrete and asphalt preparation, septic systems, pond excavation, culvert installation, streambank restoration, and reclamation.

We are looking for an experienced Finish Equipment Operator and/or Grading Foreman with excellent grading skills, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to produce high-quality finished work. Our ideal candidates are proficient in operating motor graders, tracked skid steers, and other construction equipment, with a thorough understanding of grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage.

We are seeking individuals who take pride in their workmanship, operate equipment safely and efficiently, and work well with others. Candidates with strong leadership abilities and experience supervising grading crews will also be considered for a foreman position.

Reports To

Dirt Superintendent / Excavation General Superintendent (as assigned)

Core Expectations

· Safety first—operate equipment responsibly, recognize jobsite hazards, and protect employees, the public, and company equipment.

· Quality workmanship—consistently produce accurate finished grades that meet project specifications and minimize rework.

· Productivity—work efficiently, maintain production goals, and minimize unnecessary downtime.

· Teamwork—work alongside other employees and assist with ground-level tasks when necessary.

· Leadership—demonstrate good judgment, communicate clearly, and help develop less experienced employees.

· Integrity—conduct business honestly, take pride in workmanship, and act in the best interest of the company.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently, including:

· Motor graders

· Tracked skid steers

· Dozers

· Excavators

· Wheel loaders

· Rollers and compactors

· Perform precision finish grading for roads, parking lots, building pads, foundations, drainage improvements, and other civil construction projects.

· Read and interpret construction plans, elevations, slopes, cross-sections, and grading specifications.

· Calculate, establish, and verify grades using appropriate surveying and grade-checking equipment.

· Operate GPS and machine-control systems when applicable.

· Perform rough grading, subgrade preparation, aggregate placement, fine grading, and finish work.

· Ensure proper drainage, slopes, elevations, and surface tolerances.

· Coordinate with survey personnel, superintendents, and project managers to ensure work is completed accurately.

· Identify potential grading conflicts, unsuitable materials, drainage issues, and other field conditions before they create costly problems.

· Perform daily equipment inspections, greasing, fueling, and routine maintenance; report mechanical problems promptly.

· Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

· Assist with manual labor and other construction activities when needed, including hand grading, compaction, and jobsite cleanup.

Additional Responsibilities for Foreman Candidates

· Direct and supervise daily grading and earthwork activities.

· Plan daily work activities and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and trucking needs.

· Establish clear production goals and communicate expectations to crew members.

· Monitor crew productivity, equipment utilization, and quality of completed work.

· Coordinate with the Dirt Superintendent and Excavation General Superintendent regarding scheduling, staffing, and project progress.

· Ensure crew members follow company safety procedures and maintain high workmanship standards.

· Train, mentor, and assist operators in developing their grading and equipment operating skills.

· Complete or oversee required daily reports, production quantities, timekeeping, and field documentation.

· Identify potential change orders, additional work, and unforeseen conditions, and communicate them promptly to management.

· Lead by example while remaining actively involved in field operations.

Qualifications

· Significant experience operating construction equipment, particularly motor graders and tracked skid steers.

· Excellent finish grading skills with a demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality results.

· Ability to calculate, establish, and check grades independently.

· Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and grading specifications.

· Experience with GPS and machine-control systems preferred.

· Experience operating multiple types of construction equipment.

· Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required; Class A CDL preferred but not required.

· Physically capable of climbing in and out of equipment, performing manual labor, and working extended hours when necessary.

· Willingness to assist with all aspects of construction rather than operating equipment exclusively.

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

· Dependable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.

· Strong communication skills and a willingness to help train other employees.

· Previous crew leadership or foreman experience preferred for candidates seeking a supervisory position.

Schedule

Typically Monday–Friday, approximately 40–50 hours per week. Longer days and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project schedules. Applicants must be willing to maintain a flexible schedule when needed.
