What they need
ABOUT FINENZE
Finenze is a Great Neck-based fintech company building next-generation crypto and fiat payment infrastructure for merchants. We enable businesses to accept, convert, and settle digital assets and traditional currencies through a secure, compliant, white-label platform. We are a small, ambitious team at the ground floor of something big — and we are looking for people who want to build with us.
THE ROLE
This is one of the most important hires we will make. As our Operations & Compliance Manager, you will be the operational backbone of Finenze — the person who makes sure our compliance program actually runs, our merchants get onboarded correctly, and nothing falls through the cracks.
You are not a lawyer and you are not making final legal decisions — but you are the bridge between our technology provider, our merchants, our compliance officer, and our legal team. You will work directly with our COO and report to the BSA/AML Compliance Officer.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Merchant Onboarding
● Collect and review merchant onboarding documents — business registration, ownership structure, government IDs, and supporting financials
● Submit merchant applications through our platform and coordinate with our technology provider for KYB approval
● Follow up on missing or incomplete documents and communicate clearly with merchants throughout the onboarding process
● Maintain organized onboarding files for every merchant with all required documents and approvals documented
Daily Compliance Operations
● Monitor the provider compliance dashboard daily for alerts, holds, and flagged transactions
● Log all alerts and cases into our compliance records system with accurate timestamps and details
● Escalate flagged or suspicious activity to the Compliance Officer immediately — do not resolve independently
● Ensure no suspended or unapproved merchant is actively transacting
● Handle merchant questions and complaints, log all communications, and escalate unresolved issues
Records & Reporting
● Maintain complete, organized, and retrievable records for all merchants, transactions, alerts, and compliance decisions — retained for a minimum of five years
● Prepare the monthly compliance dashboard report for review and sign-off by the Compliance Officer
● Assist in preparing quarterly compliance reports for Board presentation
● Ensure all compliance decisions made verbally or informally are memorialized in writing in the company system — no compliance decisions left only in WhatsApp or personal messages
Vendor & Provider Coordination
● Serve as the day-to-day operational point of contact with the provider for onboarding, compliance queries, and escalations
● Track the provider service issues, outages, and unresolved compliance matters and report them weekly
● Maintain a vendor reliance file with all agreements, screening descriptions, escalation contacts, and performance records
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required:
● 2–5 years of experience in fintech operations, payments, banking compliance, or financial services
● Solid understanding of KYC/KYB processes and AML compliance frameworks
● Experience handling sensitive financial documents with professionalism and discretion
● Strong organizational skills — you can manage multiple open cases simultaneously without losing track
● Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
● Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment where processes are still being built
● Based in New York and available to work in-person full time
Preferred (not required):
● Experience at a payment processor, money services business, or crypto company
● Familiarity with BSA/AML regulations and FinCEN requirements
● Experience working with compliance platforms such as Sumsub, Jumio, TRM Labs, or Chainalysis
● CAMS certification (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or similar
● Experience with blockchain transactions and digital asset products
WHAT WE OFFER
● A ground-floor opportunity to build the compliance and operations function of a growing fintech company from scratch
● Direct access to leadership and meaningful ownership of your role from day one
● Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
● The opportunity to grow into a senior compliance leadership role as Finenze scales
● A small, driven team that moves fast and takes compliance seriously
Important: This role operates in a regulated financial services environment. The right candidate understands that compliance is never optional and that escalating a concern is always the right call — regardless of commercial pressure. If you are someone who cuts corners, this is not the role for you.
