Fire Alarm Technician

Big Muddy Fire Alarm

Topeka, KS | Full-Time | Competitive starting pay based on NICET level/experience and sign-on bonus

We keep the buildings people live and work in safe, and we're hiring the technicians who make that happen. Big Muddy Fire Alarm installs, inspects, and services fire alar, and life safety systems across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, and government sites.

We're a large-scale operation that still runs like a small business: your Service Manager knows your name, your truck stock is dialed in, and your growth path is real – not a slide in an org chart.

What You'll Do

• Own the full repair cycle on customers' fire alarm systems, from diagnosis to sign-off
• Work independently on-site, communicating directly with customers on system status
• Keep every job compliant with NFPA 72 and local/national code, no shortcuts
• Maintain accurate service documentation and truck stock to hit first-call completion
• Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees and managers to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement

What You Need

• Experience programming and servicing major fire alarm brands (e.g., Notifier, EST, Simplex, Fire-Lite, Silent Knight, FCI)
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, and sequence of operation matrices
• NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification – required (we sponsor additional levels once you're on our team)
• Detailed working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code)
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to lift up to 30+ lbs of materials and work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces

What You Get

• We pay for your next NICET level. Exam fees, study time, and a clear path from Level I through Level IV, with pay increases tied to each level you hit
• Ongoing manufacturer certification training
• Company vehicle, laptop, phone, and tools provided
• Health, vision, and dental insurance
• Accrued PTO, short- and long-term disability
• Generous holiday schedule

Fire alarm techs with NICET certification are in short supply nationwide right now. If you've got the credentials (or are close), we want to talk to you before someone else does!
