What they need
Fire & Security Engineer wanted in Norwich, one who installs and commissions to SSAIB standards and wants to be part of a growing company with real ambition.
ABOUT US
Hawthorne designs, installs and maintains CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and fire detection for businesses that cannot afford to get security wrong. We are SSAIB certified, Safe Contractor approved and Cyber Essentials certified, with Hikvision and Paxton at the heart of what we install.
WHY WE'RE HIRING
We are growing. We have the accreditations, the pipeline and a maintenance book that needs looking after properly. What we need is another Fire & Security engineer who can be handed a job and trusted to install it, commission it and certify it to SSAIB standards without anyone standing over them.
WHY WE'RE A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
We are not a big corporate, and that is exactly the point.
We are a growing, independent Fire and Security company where engineers are noticed, valued and listened to. You won't be a number on a spreadsheet, or just another van on the road. You will be a big part of the team, where your experience matters, your opinions are heard and you can genuinely help shape the way we do things. We support each other, share knowledge, and you will have people to lean on. We are ambitious, growing quickly and are very proud of the reputation we are developing. And with us investing in our future by building our own operating system and field app, your day runs as smoothly as possible.
IS THIS THE BEST FIRE & SECURITY ENGINEER'S JOB IN NORFOLK?
Quite possibly. You tell us. You will survey, install and commission security systems on commercial and residential sites where the client cares about the result, and you will sign the certificate at the end because it is your work. You will be trusted to run your own jobs from survey to handover.
THE PACKAGE
Up to £35,000 basic depending on experience and how many disciplines you bring, plus standby pay when you are on the rota and overtime pay. Company van, fuel card, phone, tools, test kit and PPE all provided. Workplace pension. 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays, plus Christmas shut down! Funded manufacturer and industry training. We will show you exactly how the standby and overtime maths works at interview, so you can see what a normal year actually pays.
THE PERFECT CANDIDATE
We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in the Fire and Security industry. You will have installed and commissioned intruder alarm systems on commercial sites for a few years at least: grade 2 and grade 3 systems to PD 6662 and BS EN 50131, confirmed alarms to BS 8243, and the signalling that goes with them to an alarm receiving centre. You know what proper commissioning looks like, and you have written the certificates and handover documents an SSAIB inspection expects to see. You can read a spec, survey a site and tell us what it actually needs rather than what the drawing says. You leave sites tidy and paperwork complete, because in our world a job is not finished until it is certified and handed over. You talk to clients like a professional, because you are often the only Hawthorne person they meet.
A TYPICAL DAY
Every day is different! One day you will be out servicing, the next on an install, doing a few surveys, or on an emergency call out to help our customers.
THE NITTY-GRITTY
Based at our Norwich office (NR6), travelling to sites across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, with occasional work further afield. Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, with a share of the out-of-hours standby rota because our clients get a four-hour emergency response and we mean it. Full UK driving licence essential and you will need to pass BS 7858 security screening, including enhanced DBS and further police checks. Reporting to our Managing Director. We are looking for someone to start ASAP.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Do not send a CV yet. If you have read this and thought "that's me", click apply. The moment you do, we will send you a short online questionnaire. It takes about ten minutes and tells us far more than a CV ever could. We read every one, and we move quickly around here.
