FIRE & SECURITY OFFICER

About the role

Hotel Royal Kuala Lumpur is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Fire & Security Officer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a critical position that plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, security and wellbeing of our guests, staff and assets. Based in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of fire safety and security protocols throughout our hotel premises. This role is essential to our operations and directly contributes to creating a secure and trusted environment for all who visit and work at our hotel.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate security systems, CCTV surveillance and access control systems throughout the hotel
• Conduct regular patrols of all hotel areas including guest rooms, corridors, lobbies, kitchens, storage areas and external premises to identify and prevent security risks
• Respond promptly to security incidents, emergency situations and fire alarms, following established protocols and procedures
• Maintain detailed incident reports and security logs, documenting all unusual activities, breaches or concerns
• Enforce hotel security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance from guests and staff members
• Perform fire safety inspections, test fire equipment and ensure fire exits remain clear and accessible
• Respond to emergency calls and provide first response assistance during fire, medical or security emergencies
• Coordinate with local emergency services including police and fire departments when necessary
• Screen and monitor entry points, checking identification and verifying authorisation for all personnel
• Conduct bag checks and security inspections in compliance with hotel policies
• Maintain communication with other security team members through radio and reporting channels
• Provide excellent customer service to guests whilst maintaining a vigilant security presence
• Participate in security training, fire drills and professional development programmes

What we're looking for

• Certification in fire safety and security operations, or willingness to obtain required certifications
• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a security, fire safety or related role, preferably within the hospitality industry
• Strong knowledge of fire safety procedures, emergency response protocols and security best practices
• Excellent observational and surveillance skills with the ability to identify potential threats and suspicious behaviour
• Sound judgment and the ability to make quick, informed decisions during high-pressure situations
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and guests
• Physical fitness and stamina to perform patrol duties and respond to emergencies
• Proficiency with security systems, CCTV equipment and access control technology
• Full driving licence and ability to travel between locations if required
• Fluency in English, with additional languages a distinct advantage
• Personal integrity, reliability and a professional demeanour at all times
• Current security clearance or ability to obtain clearance as required by hotel policy
