Fire Engineer

Salary: $54,134.00 total starting annual salary*

*Total starting salary includes FSLA OVT, Bonus and Holiday Pay

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and position fire apparatus at emergency scenes to support firefighting operations and establish water supplies

Operate pumps, regulate water pressure, monitor apparatus performance, and ensure equipment is ready for service

Perform fire suppression, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, and other emergency response duties

Respond to medical emergencies and provide care within the individual's certification and scope of practice

Lead and assist with technical rescue operations, including vehicle extrication, high-angle, confined space, and trench rescues

Inspect, clean, maintain, and restock fire apparatus, equipment, station buildings, and supplies

Conduct pre-fire surveys, business inspections, fire hydrant testing, and fire prevention activities

Monitor radio traffic, coordinate equipment needs, and report mechanical issues or equipment failures

Participate in ongoing training, drills, and continuing education

Assume lieutenant duties when needed

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Previous experience as a firefighter

NC Firefighter Certification

NC Technical Rescuer – General Certification

NC Emergency Medical Technician Certification, meeting Catawba County EMS requirements

Valid Class B North Carolina Driver’s License

Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification

Driver/Operator Pumps Certification

Driver/Operator Aerials Certification

NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800

Ability to pass an annual NFPA 1582-compliant physical

Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally
