What they need
Company Description First In Fire Compliance is an independent fire code compliance and asset risk reduction firm that evaluates buildings and sites the way a fire marshal would, before clients buy, lease, build, or change operations. The firm provides written guidance on city requirements, expected costs, and timelines, helping organizations avoid unexpected code issues and financial risk. Its work covers the full operation, including approved use versus actual use, storage practices, sprinkler design, egress, hazardous materials, alarm and detection systems, and fire department access and water supply. First In Fire Compliance specializes in lithium-ion and battery storage in industrial buildings, battery energy storage sites, data centers and mission-critical facilities, and preconstruction and pre-lease due diligence. Led by Principal Nick Anthony, a fire captain with 28 years of fire service experience, the Southern California–based team includes credentialed fire plans examiners, senior code professionals, and licensed fire protection engineers, with no stake in downstream installation or system sales.
Role Description The Fire Plans Examiner contract role is responsible for reviewing architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection plans to verify compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes and standards. In this hybrid role based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, the Fire Plans Examiner will conduct on-site plan review and limited field verification, combined with remote document analysis and report writing from home. Day-to-day tasks include evaluating proposed building uses and storage arrangements, assessing fire protection systems against code requirements, identifying life safety concerns, and preparing clear, written findings and recommendations for clients. The role also involves coordinating with senior code professionals and fire protection engineers, interpreting local and national codes, and supporting preconstruction, pre-lease, and due diligence reviews. The Fire Plans Examiner is expected to manage deadlines across multiple projects, maintain accurate records, and communicate code issues and compliance pathways in a concise, client-focused manner.
