Fire Service Engineer

Scutum is looking for an experienced Service & Maintenance Engineer, Fire to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role responsible for servicing, maintaining and supporting a wide range of fire detection, alarm and life safety systems, ensuring our clients remain compliant, protected and operational.

As one of the primary points of contact for our customers, you will combine strong technical expertise with outstanding customer service. Working closely with clients, colleagues and the wider business, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive servicing and system modifications while maintaining the high standards associated with the Scutum brand.

This role is ideal for an experienced fire industry professional who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and delivering exceptional service whilst working independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Service and maintain fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with relevant British Standards and BAFE SP201 and SP203 requirements.
• Attend reactive call-outs and planned preventative maintenance visits across client sites.
• Carry out commissioning of additional devices on existing fire systems.
• Diagnose and rectify faults accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with company procedures, industry standards and client requirements.
• Support other business departments where required, including Projects and Sales.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Complete all documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including service reports, work reports, timesheets, mileage reports and expense claims.
• Ensure clients are satisfied with the service provided before leaving site.
• Deliver a consistently high standard of customer service and professionalism.
• Comply with all company Health & Safety procedures and policies.
• Adhere to company quality and environmental standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
• Represent Scutum professionally at all times as an ambassador of the business.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years' experience within the fire industry.
• Proven experience servicing, maintaining and fault finding on fire alarm systems.
• Strong knowledge of industry legislation, codes of practice and relevant British Standards.
• Experience working with both addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
• Proven competency in servicing, maintenance and commissioning activities.
• Strong technical knowledge across one or more of the following disciplines:
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • PAVA Systems
  • Emergency Lighting
  • Nurse Call Systems
  • Disabled Refuge Systems
• Ability to fault find accurately and resolve technical issues effectively.
• Experience working within established company processes and compliance requirements.
• Strong client-facing experience with the ability to build professional relationships and provide an exceptional customer experience.
• Experience working on reactive call-outs and planned maintenance activities across multiple sites.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent in the use of laptops, smartphones and electronic test equipment.
• Good IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting and administration.
• Full UK driving licence.
• ECS or CSCS Card.

Desirable

• Knowledge of GENT, Advanced, Siemens, Morley, Kentec, Eaton, Notifier, Ziton and IFAX fire alarm systems.
• Experience with Linear Heat Detection Systems.
• ATEX experience.
• Knowledge of computer-based graphical user interfaces.
• CompEx systems knowledge.
• Experience with VESDA and other aspirating detection systems.
• Electrical background.
• ICEL accreditation in Emergency Lighting.
• FIA F-Gas certification.
• FIA Units 1, 4 and 5 qualifications or an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
• Valid UKATA Asbestos Awareness certification.
