What they need

Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician Apprentice

At Desert Fire Extinguisher Co., Inc., we believe protecting people and property starts with having great people on our team.

We are a family-owned fire protection company that takes pride in serving our community and helping keep local restaurants, commercial kitchens, businesses, employees, and customers safe. The work we do matters, and we want our employees to feel that same sense of purpose when they come to work each day.

Just as importantly, we believe in investing in our people. We want to give motivated employees an opportunity to learn a skilled trade, receive hands-on training, earn certifications, and build a long-term career in the fire protection industry.

If you enjoy working with your hands, learning how things work, being part of a team, and seeing the results of your work at the end of the day, this could be a great opportunity to start a new career.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician Apprentice who is dependable, motivated, and ready to learn.

This is a true entry-level position, and previous fire suppression experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person. What matters most to us is your attitude, work ethic, reliability, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions and work safely.

You will work alongside experienced technicians while learning how to inspect, service, repair, and install commercial kitchen fire suppression systems. As your knowledge and experience grow, so will your responsibilities and opportunities within the company.

Schedule Flexibility Is a Requirement

One important part of this position is understanding that commercial kitchens do not always allow fire protection work to be performed during normal business hours.

Because of this, working nights, early mornings, weekends, and different or changing shift schedules is a requirement of this position.

Some days may begin early in the morning, while other assignments may require evening or overnight work after a restaurant or commercial kitchen has closed. Employees may also be required to participate in weekend or on-call assignments depending on customer and department needs.

Applicants should be comfortable with a position that does not always follow a traditional Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule.

We want candidates to understand this expectation from the beginning so that the position is a good fit for both you and our team.

What You’ll Do

As an Apprentice, you will learn the trade while working alongside experienced technicians. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of commercial kitchen fire suppression systems.
  • Learning directly from experienced technicians through paid, hands-on training.
  • Learning proper safety procedures, service techniques, manufacturer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment required to complete service work.
  • Helping prepare equipment and materials before jobs and keeping tools and work areas organized.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete service documentation.
  • Communicating professionally and respectfully with customers and coworkers.
  • Following company safety policies and the direction of your lead technician or department manager.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as your knowledge, skills, and confidence develop.
  • Working toward the certifications and qualifications necessary to become a Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician.

What We’re Looking For

You do not need to already know the fire protection industry. We can teach the trade.

We are looking for someone who brings the right attitude and is ready to put in the effort to build a career.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Dependability and the ability to arrive ready to work for scheduled shifts.
  • Basic experience with hand tools or a willingness to learn.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.
  • The ability to follow instructions and accept coaching from experienced technicians.
  • The ability to lift approximately 50 pounds and perform physical work.
  • The ability to work on ladders and in commercial kitchen environments.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.
  • The flexibility to work nights, early mornings, weekends, on-call assignments, and varying shift schedules as required.

Why Join Desert Fire?

We understand that starting a new career can feel like a big step. You are not expected to walk through the door knowing everything.

Our goal is to give you the training, experience, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become successful in this trade.

At Desert Fire, you can expect:

  • Paid, hands-on training with experienced fire protection professionals.
  • A supportive, family-oriented work environment.
  • Opportunities to learn a skilled and valuable trade.
  • Training and mentorship as you develop your technical abilities.
  • A clear path toward becoming a certified Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician.
  • Opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement as your skills develop.
  • A career in an essential and stable industry where your work has a real purpose.
  • Competitive benefits designed to support you and your family.

Benefits

After successfully completing the applicable 90-day introductory/probationary period, eligible employees may receive benefits including:

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Health Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

Additional benefits and eligibility requirements will be explained during the hiring and onboarding process.

Build a Career That Matters

A career in fire protection is about much more than installing equipment or turning a wrench.

The systems you will learn to inspect, maintain, and repair are designed to protect people, businesses, property, and our community.

Every restaurant or commercial kitchen you help protect is another building that is better prepared if a fire occurs. That gives our work a purpose that goes beyond completing another service call.

If you are dependable, willing to learn, comfortable working with your hands, and ready for a career where no two days are exactly the same, we would like to hear from you.

Come learn a trade, build your skills, and grow your career with Desert Fire Extinguisher Co., Inc.
