Firmware Engineer Consultant

As an Embedded Software / Firmware Engineer, you will contribute to the development of embedded firmware solutions for low-power, battery-operated electronic devices. You will be involved throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from architecture definition and implementation to integration, verification, and validation activities, while collaborating closely with Electronics, Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, and Test Engineering teams.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize embedded firmware using C for battery-powered electronic products.
• Contribute to software architecture definition and detailed embedded system design.
• Develop solutions on modern microcontroller platforms, including ARM Cortex-M, TI MSPM, and related technologies.
• Support the integration, maintenance, and evolution of firmware components.
• Define, automate, and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests.
• Analyse validation results and work closely with System, Simulation, and Verification teams to improve product performance.
• Contribute to the optimization of device behavior, reliability, and overall system performance throughout the product lifecycle.
• Support technical investigations, debugging activities, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with Electronics, Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, and Test Engineering teams.
• Work with external development partners to ensure robust and high-quality engineering solutions.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, engineering practices, and product quality.

Your Profile

• Master's degree or Engineering degree in Electronics Engineering, Embedded Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded software or firmware development.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Embedded C development.
• Experience with C++ is considered an advantage.
• Experience working with modern microcontroller architectures, particularly ARM Cortex-M.
• Solid knowledge of embedded peripherals, including: UART; SPI; I²C; ADC; DMA; Timers
• Interrupt-driven systems
• Experience with RTOS environments.
• Knowledge of inter-processor and multi-chip communication architectures.
• Experience with embedded development toolchains, debugging tools, and version control systems.
• Good understanding of CI/CD environments and development workflows.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting for automation, testing, and development activities.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using JTAG debuggers, emulators, and simulators.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and electronic test equipment.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with STM32 microcontroller families.
• Experience developing low-power, battery-operated products.
• Experience with automated testing and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
• Experience in Consumer Electronics, Medical Devices, or other regulated industries.
• Understanding of software verification, validation, and quality assurance processes.
• Experience supporting high-volume product industrialization programs.
