FITTER

• Lay out, positions and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge combination square, calipers and ruler.
• Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc or other welding equipment.
• Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears or chipping knife.
• erforms related work as required.

Competency Requirements

• Preferably graduation from a standard vocational or high school and working experience as a journeyman fitter/marker or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the fitter/marker trade.
• Considerable knowledge of the properties of ferrous and nonferrous metals encountered in fitter/marker work.
• Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and work from simple sketches, diagrams and broken parts.
• Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment common to the fitter/marker trade.
