What they need

Sibanye-Stillwater Australia (SSWA), a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater Limited (a multinational mining and metals processing group) is a leading mining, tailings management, and economic rehabilitation company. Our flagship asset is the Century Mine and Karumba Port in Queensland, which stands as the largest tailings remining and processing operation in the Australian industry, with opportunities for the future return to hard rock mining of both open pit and underground deposits.

We are also completing study work to support the restart of our brownfields development project, the Mt Lyell Copper Mine in Tasmania, which aims to produce copper, gold and pyrite via underground operations with a very small environmental footprint.

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our operations team. This role is responsible for the mechanical maintenance and reliability of underground crushing, conveying, loading station, pumping house and ventilation systems, as well as routine preventative maintenance across the Fixed Plant area. Working on either a 7:7 day/night roster or a 5:2 roster, you will play a key role in ensuring equipment availability, minimising production disruptions and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and Project Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient operation, inspection and maintenance of underground pumping, settling, hoisting and ventilation systems. You will undertake planned preventative maintenance activities, identify and rectify plant defects, raise work requests within SAP and ensure all maintenance activities are completed to a high standard. Maintaining accurate shift records and communicating equipment status, maintenance activities and operational issues will form an important part of the role.

About You
A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards is essential. You will ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and statutory requirements, complete risk assessments prior to commencing work and actively identify and report workplace hazards. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, maintain high housekeeping standards within your work area and provide training and support to other personnel when required.

Highly Regarded Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this position, you will hold a recognised trade qualification in Welding, Fitting or Electrical and possess a current driver’s licence. You will have demonstrated experience working within regulated industrial environments and maintaining compliance with safety procedures, operational standards and maintenance practices. Strong communication skills, computer literacy and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential.

Candidates with previous experience in a processing plant environment will be highly regarded, along with experience using SAP maintenance systems. The ability to prepare clear and concise shift reports, manage competing priorities and maintain productivity in a dynamic operational environment will be key to success. You will be known for your reliability, flexibility, strong organisational skills and proactive approach to problem solving.

Additional qualifications such as Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, Elevated Work Platform, Dogman, Non-Slew Crane and First Aid certification will be highly desirable.

Legal:

  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Clear security screening record per region.
  • Ability to travel (if required).

This is an excellent opportunity for a safety-conscious tradesperson looking to further develop their skills within a challenging and rewarding mining environment. If you are committed to operational excellence, equipment reliability and working as part of a high-performing team, we encourage you to apply.
