What they need
Tyred is building the operating system for light electric fleets. We combine hands-on field operations with software diagnostics, IoT hardware and fleet management, and we already service micromobility and delivery fleets for some of the UK's best-known logistics and rental operators.
We're now expanding into autonomous delivery robots. Our partner operates sidewalk delivery robots, and Tyred houses, charges, deploys, retrieves and supports them in the field under strict service levels. Milton Keynes is a new operating area for us.
As Fleet Manager you own that operation end to end. You open the Base, build the team, hit the service levels every day, and keep the robots safe, charged and on the street. As the fleet scales, you scale the operation with it.
Key responsibilities
Daily field operations
- Run deployment every morning so every robot is placed at its start point and live within 30 minutes of the service window opening.
- Run retrieval every evening so every robot is back at the Base and on charge within 60 minutes of the window closing.
- Dispatch and oversee in-field tasks raised through the client's operations app: battery swaps, uncollected food removal, safety flag and mast replacement, and emergency repositioning.
- Prioritise emergencies (robots off course, on a carriageway or blocking access) ahead of all queued work, and escalate to the client's remote operations team when a robot can't be moved safely.
- Put staff and public safety first on every job.
Base, charging and battery safety
- Set up and run the Milton Keynes Base: secure indoor storage, controlled access, CCTV and a designated charging area.
- Own lithium-ion battery safety: charging on non-combustible surfaces away from exits, correct detection and extinguishers, charge limits and storage charge levels per manufacturer instructions.
- Keep at least two charged battery packs per robot at the Base at all times, and manage charge rotation.
- Quarantine any damaged, swollen, overheating or dropped battery immediately and report it to the client the same day.
- Maintain the Base fire risk assessment and review it as robot numbers grow.
- Keep the Base inspection-ready; the client may audit it quarterly.
Custody and asset care
- Take responsibility for robots while in Tyred's custody: at the Base, in transit and while being handled in the field.
- Make sure robots are transported secured in suitable vehicles.
- Run the daily photo-logged condition check on every robot, and report any damage to the client within 24 hours.
- Manage spare parts and consumables (flags, masts) and get approval before buying.
Team leadership
- Recruit, onboard, train and rota field riders across a 7-day operation, including right-to-work checks.
- Make sure everyone who handles batteries is trained in safe handling and incident response.
- Attend client training on handling, charging and unlocking robots, and cascade it to the team, including for any new robot model.
- Hold high standards on timekeeping, safety and quality.
Reporting and client relationship
- Act as the day-to-day account lead for the Milton Keynes operation.
- Keep a live task log with a photo record for every task and daily check, in the client's app where possible.
- Send a weekly operations report: deployment and retrieval times, tasks completed, response times, service level performance, robot condition issues and incidents.
- Run the weekly catch-up call with the client and prepare for quarterly business reviews as the fleet grows.
- When service levels slip, lead the root-cause analysis and write the remediation plan within 5 working days.
Scaling and commercial awareness
- Use the client's rolling three-month forecast to plan staff, vehicles, Base space and battery storage ahead of demand.
- Onboard added robots quickly; the operation should grow from a handful to 20, 50, 100+ without service dropping.
- Scope new areas or extra Bases around Milton Keynes when the client expands.
- Check that the monthly invoice data (recurring charges, tasks, parts, out-of-hours work) is accurate and matches the task log.
- Keep costs per robot under control as volume pricing steps down.
Compliance and data
- Keep Tyred's own risk assessments current and follow the client's written operating procedures.
- Handle any personal data (robot cameras, customer data) only as needed for the job, in line with UK GDPR.
- Keep client pricing, volumes and operating data confidential.
Pay: £25,420.00-£32,000.00 per year
