What they need

Description Welcome to SSC Space (formerly Swedish Space Corporation), the perfect workplace for those passionate about technology in general and space in particular.   With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, spacecraft consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, and much more.

Would you like to help develop a workplace where people, technology, and space come together? At SSC Space, you will have the opportunity to contribute to something that truly makes a difference – Help Earth Benefit from Space.

We are now looking for a Flight Safety Engineer who shares our values – Customer Passion, Care, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Courage – and wants to play an important role in our continued growth and development within space technology and launch operations.

Requirements As a Flight Safety Engineer at Esrange, you will play a key role in ensuring that our rocket and balloon campaigns are conducted safely and securely, both in the air and on the ground. You will plan and coordinate flight trajectories, impact areas, and permits, ensuring that operations are carried out without risk to people, wildlife, or the environment.

You will work closely with external stakeholders, including authorities and other partners, where effective communication and collaboration are essential to ensuring smooth operations. In your day-to-day work, you will serve as an important link between Esrange and the outside world, helping to build understanding of and confidence in our activities.

The role is both analytical and operational. During campaign periods, you will be actively involved on site during launches, ensuring that everything proceeds according to plan. To thrive in this position, you should enjoy variety and be flexible, as the work alternates between planning, analysis, and hands-on operational participation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to combine engineering, data analysis, and practical responsibility while contributing to the future of space operations here in Kiruna

Responsibilities You are an analytical and detail-oriented professional who enjoys taking responsibility and making decisions based on facts and risk assessments. You thrive in a role where collaboration, communication, and structure are just as important as technical understanding.

You likely have a background in engineering, aviation, data analysis, or safety, and you are comfortable working with systems and analyzing data. Experience in flight safety, managing relationships with regulatory authorities, or similar areas of responsibility is considered an advantage. However, what matters most is that you have a structured approach to your work, strong communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders.

To Succeed In This Role, You Should

  • Be analytical and structured, with a strong understanding of systems.
  • Enjoy collaborating with both regulatory authorities and local stakeholders.
  • Have strong communication skills in both Swedish and English.
  • Enjoy working both theoretically and practically.
  • Be flexible and willing to participate in campaigns outside regular working hours.

If you want to be part of a close-knit team where safety, technology, and social responsibility go hand in hand, this could be the right opportunity for you.

Benefits We offer you

  • A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
  • An excellent opportunity for personal and career development.
  • An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world.

Additional Benefits

  • In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6-11 extra days depending on the calendar.
  • Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year.
  • Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
  • Access to a benefit bike through a tax-efficient leasing program.
  • Convenient staff transportation between Kiruna and Esrange Space Center at a subsidized cost, making commuting easier for employees based in the Kiruna area.
  • Support for employee-driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams.
  • Collective Agreement, including good pensions plans, parental pay and insurance.

Location

This is a full-time position based at Esrange Space Center outside Kiruna, where you will work at the heart of our operations. The role is primarily site-based, although remote work may be possible in exceptional circumstances. During our rocket and balloon campaigns, you will take an active part in operations, which may occasionally require work outside regular office hours or at other locations.
