What they need
Float Pharmacist – Central Maine
Full-Time or Part-Time | Competitive Pay | Flexible Scheduling | Supportive Team
Community Pharmacies is the largest independently owned pharmacy in Maine, with nine locations owned and managed exclusively by pharmacists. We believe excellent patient care and staying current with modern pharmacy practice go hand in hand—and that pharmacists should be able to enjoy their careers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
We are seeking a motivated, personable, and patient-focused Float Pharmacist to join our team. We are ideally looking for someone based in the Central Maine area, but we are willing to be flexible on location for the right candidate.
Unlike a traditional staff pharmacist position, this role offers the opportunity to work across our nine pharmacy locations, supporting our teams and providing excellent patient care in different communities. We are open to discussing full-time or part-time opportunities and developing a schedule that works for both the pharmacist and our organization.
Why Community Pharmacies?
A better work-life balance.
We believe pharmacists should be able to enjoy their careers without sacrificing their lives outside of work. Our pharmacies offer reasonable operating hours and shorter weekend shifts at many locations. We value flexibility and are willing to work with the right candidate to develop a schedule that fits their needs while supporting our pharmacy teams.
Variety without the corporate retail grind.
As a float pharmacist, you will have the opportunity to work with different teams, serve patients in multiple communities, and experience the variety our organization offers. You'll help support our pharmacies when coverage is needed while remaining part of a close-knit organization that values its employees.
Experienced teams and support staff.
You won't be expected to do it all yourself. Our pharmacies have experienced technicians and support staff who help keep daily operations running smoothly. You'll also have the support of our pharmacy managers and experienced leadership team.
The advantages of a small chain.
Community Pharmacies offers the best of both worlds: the autonomy and personal connection of an independent pharmacy, combined with the resources and support of a nine-location organization. Our pharmacies maintain strong relationships with their patients and local healthcare providers while benefiting from collaboration and support across our organization.
Patient care over productivity metrics.
We believe pharmacy is about people, not just numbers. Our emphasis is on providing excellent patient care, building relationships with patients and prescribers, and supporting the health of the communities we serve—not simply meeting corporate productivity targets.
A role where you can make a difference.
Our float pharmacists play an important role in keeping our pharmacies running smoothly and ensuring patients continue to receive the care they need. You'll work with a variety of pharmacy teams and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across our organization.
About the Position
This is a multi-location pharmacist position, preferably based in the Central Maine area. Travel between Community Pharmacies locations will be required, with scheduling and location assignments coordinated with our leadership team.
We are looking for someone who enjoys variety, adapts easily to different teams and workflows, and takes pride in providing consistent, high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities include:
- Accurately process and verify prescriptions in accordance with professional standards and applicable state and federal laws.
- Provide exceptional customer service and thorough patient consultation.
- Supervise and support pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff.
- Ensure compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Adapt to the workflows and needs of different pharmacy locations.
- Build positive relationships with patients, prescribers, and pharmacy team members.
- Support pharmacy operations by providing pharmacist coverage where needed.
- Stay current with evolving pharmacy practices, technology, and clinical services.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an energetic, friendly, dependable, and adaptable pharmacist who enjoys working with people and can comfortably transition between different pharmacy teams and locations.
The ideal candidate:
- Holds an active Maine pharmacist license in good standing.
- Enjoys providing excellent patient care and building relationships with patients and prescribers.
- Is comfortable adapting to different teams, workflows, and pharmacy environments.
- Has strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Works well independently while also valuing teamwork and collaboration.
- Is dependable, flexible, and comfortable with travel between pharmacy locations.
Community pharmacy experience is preferred, but we welcome conversations with pharmacists who share our commitment to patient care and want to learn more about what makes Community Pharmacies different.
What We Offer

- Excellent benefits for eligible employees, including health insurance options, paid time off, 401(k) match, short- and long-term disability, paid family and medical leave, and more
- Flexible scheduling opportunities
- Shorter weekend shifts at many locations
- Support from experienced pharmacy managers and leadership
- Experienced pharmacy technicians and support staff
- A pharmacist-owned and pharmacist-managed organization
- The opportunity to work with multiple teams and communities
