Flow Monitoring Technician

General Description

Advanced public safety work in preventing injuries or death on the county beaches. Keeps beach and related areas clean of trash and debris. Routine work requiring a high degree of responsibility for the safety of bathers.

Supervises Lifeguards I and II in the performance of their duties;

Coordinates Lifeguard schedule and schedule changes with Guards/Utilities Supervisor;

Responsible for Emergency Training and drills of Lifeguards on a regular basis;

Responsible for daily training and fitness of Lifeguards;

Maintains order/discipline among bathers and other persons at the County Beach area;

Safeguards public to prevent injury or loss of life by drowning;

Applies resuscitation and first aid when necessary;

Operates a two-way radio to call for assistance in an emergency;

Assists in maintaining general appearance and cleanliness of the beach area, showers, restrooms, parking lot and other areas, keeping restrooms stocked with supplies;

Enforces rules to protect beach property;

Maintains records of activities, rescues and first aid reports;

Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Must be able to swim, lift up to 200 pounds (dead lift), walk, run, stand, stoop, bend, push, pull and sit for long periods; manual dexterity, good hearing and vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work outside in extreme heat and sunshine.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods and techniques of first aid and resuscitation; beach rules and regulations.

ABILITY TO: Swim, lift heavy weights, up to and/or above 200 pounds; remain alert and attentive; administer first aid and resuscitation; stand, run, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull and sit for long periods; communicate firmly, effectively and tactfully with the general public; think, act quickly in emergencies; work with stress situations; perform duties requiring good physical condition and working in hot sunlight.

SKILLS: Swimming and lifesaving techniques.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications Must have reached 17th birthday. One season’s experience as a Lifeguard.

CERTIFICATION: “Lifeguard Training and Community First Aid and Safety” issued by the American Red Cross. CPR Certification within the past year.

HOLIDAYS: Employees receive 11 paid holidays.

Vacation Leave 1-10 years---Employee is eligible to earn up to 96 hours per year

11+ years---Employee is eligible to earn up to 144 hours per year

SICK LEAVE: Employee is eligible to receive 8 paid sick hours per month.

DENTAL INSURANCE: Employee has the opportunity to purchase dental insurance.

VISION INSURANCE: Plan may be purchased by employees and their eligible family members.

LIFE INSURANCE: FREE policy for $25,000

SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE INSURANCE: Employee may purchase additional life and accidental death insurance through group rates.

RETIREMENT: As a Florida Retirement System (FRS) member, employees pay 3% of gross salary on a pre-taxed basis with the County contributing the remaining amount. Eligibility depends on option chosen; either 1 or 8 years to vest.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Tax deferred savings plan available for retirement purposes. Employee pays full cost.

SOCIAL SECURITY: Social Security Retirement, Disability, and Insurance Benefits.

JURY DUTY: Paid leave for jury duty.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Up to three (3) days leave for death in immediate family.
