Flutter Engine Engineers (C++)

Contract | Fully Remote

Contract: 12 months initially, long-term engagement expected

Location: Fully remote

Rate: Competitive and open, depending on experience

I am seeking engineers to work on the Flutter framework itself. These are not app development roles, as the work sits inside the engine, embedder and plugin layers.

You’ll be part of a platform engineering team working closely with Flutter’s core maintainers., and contribute directly upstream to one of the most widely used open-source frameworks in the world.

What you’ll be doing:

• Modifying Flutter’s engine and embedder layers in C++ to support multiple views and windows.
• Migrating and refactoring core plugins and framework components to multi-view.
• Writing and presenting technical design documents to the open-source community.
• Submitting small, iterative pull requests upstream and working through review to get changes merged.
• Debugging CI and performance issues caused by architectural changes.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong C++ experience at engine, embedder, plugin, or native platform level. This is essential.
• Experience with Flutter internals, the engine architecture, or platform channel integration.
• Deep knowledge of at least one platform: desktop windowing, Android (Kotlin/Java, NDK, WindowManager) or iOS (Swift, Objective-C, UIKit, SceneDelegate).
• A track record of contributing to open-source projects and working constructively through upstream review.

Nice to have:

• Experience with spatial computing platforms such as visionOS or Android XR.
• Experience building or maintaining complex Flutter plugins and packages.
