What they need
FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER
Full Time | Manawatu Golf Club
Great people. Great environment. Plenty of variety. And a role where great leadership really matters.
We’re looking for an outstanding Front of House Manager to join the team at Manawatu Golf Club.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who genuinely enjoys people, delivers exceptional customer service and can lead a team through the busiest of days with a smile.
Our Club is a busy and varied environment. One day might involve looking after members enjoying a quiet lunch, the next could be a packed Friday night, corporate golf day, wedding or major event.
Sometimes everything goes exactly to plan. Sometimes it doesn’t.
That’s when we need you at your best.
You might need to change a keg in the middle of service, somehow find every group their perfect window table, cover for someone else's mistake and still make every member feel like they're the most important person in the room.
Basically, we’re looking for a bit of a miracle worker.
You’ll be a leader first and foremost
We want someone who can build, train and lead a great FOH team.
That includes managing rosters intelligently — having the A Team on when we need them, developing the next generation of the A Team, and doing all of that while understanding and managing wage costs.
You'll set standards, give people confidence and create an environment where staff know their roles and are trusted to perform them.
Great leaders don't create more stress when things get busy. They create calm and allow the people around them to perform at their best.
Exceptional customer service is essential. Our members are incredibly important to us, and we want someone who will get to know them, understand what they value and make them feel genuinely welcome.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
- A current Manager’s Certificate for the sale and supply of alcohol
- Proven hospitality and FOH experience
- Experience managing, training and developing staff
- Strong roster management and an understanding of wage costs
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- The ability to remain calm, positive and professional under pressure
- A genuine team-first attitude
- The confidence to make decisions and solve problems quickly
- The ability to own mistakes — and sometimes quietly fix someone else's
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and help wherever required
Barista experience would be an advantage, but it isn't what will win you the job. Leadership, attitude and exceptional customer service will.
One team – Kitchen and Front of House
You’ll work closely with our Food & Beverage Manager and Events Manager, and one of your most important responsibilities will be building an outstanding relationship between Front of House and Kitchen.
Great hospitality only happens when both sides work together.
When something changes at the last minute, we're not interested in whose fault it is. We want someone who asks:
“How are we going to make this work?”
Because occasionally the gluten-free, dairy-free vegetarian will arrive when roast lamb and creamy pavlova are on the menu.
You don't panic. You find a solution. Quickly. And preferably with a smile.
The reality
Hospitality can mean long days, busy functions, changing plans and solving problems you didn't know existed five minutes earlier.
We don't expect perfection.
We do expect someone who takes responsibility, finds solutions, supports their team and maintains their sense of humour and professionalism when things get challenging.
If you can do all of that with a smile, you'll fit in very well.
Why Manawatu Golf Club?
You'll work in a fantastic environment with a strong team, great members and plenty of variety.
The role comes with opportunities to enjoy the Club and golf as part of the package, including golf membership, and you'll become part of an organisation with a proud history and exciting plans for the future.
And while the final remuneration package will depend on experience, additional benefits may include unlimited access to our famous cheese scones.
Terms and conditions may apply. Mainly whether there are any left.
You don't need to be a golfer.
You do need to be a leader, a team player, a problem solver and someone who genuinely loves looking after people.
When do we need you?
In an ideal world, before 1 November.
That's about the time our functions, events, golf and Christmas season start getting seriously busy — so we'd love to have our new FOH Manager settled in and ready to help lead the charge.
For the right person, however, we're prepared to have a conversation about timing.
If you've got a history of making teams better, delivering brilliant customer experiences and staying calm when everyone else is starting to panic, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and a short introduction telling us why you'd be a great fit for Manawatu Golf Club.
Other offers great for you!
