About ACSA Community Services:

Do you believe in a world where everyone has equal opportunities, where community support helps dreams come true? ACSA Community Services is your gateway to making this vision a reality. As a cornerstone of the community for over 50 years, ACSA has been dedicated to uplifting those in need. We offer vital programs like youth empowerment initiatives, emergency food and housing services, and newcomer support to help individuals and families thrive. We are diligent in supporting our neighbours in Scarborough, North York and York Region. By getting involved, you're not just giving aid; you're becoming a part of our mission to build a brighter, more equitable future.

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a community focused, equity-driven Food Security Coordinator to help shape and deliver ACSA’s food security strategy across Scarborough. The ideal candidate is an organized, collaborative facilitator with practical experience in urban agriculture, community outreach, and grassroots leadership. If you are passionate about health equity, dignifying food access, and building resilient local food systems, we invite you to apply.

· Refer to ACSA Community Services for more information about ACSA’s work.

About the role:

· Oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of core food security programs (e.g., Cooking Healthy Together, community gardens, dignity-centered food access, and city-funded initiatives). Oversee budgets, monitor expenditures, maintain evaluation metrics, and compile reports for stakeholders and funders.

· Implement ACSA’s Food Security Strategy across internal departments and Scarborough networks to strengthen the local food system, align with organizational priorities, and champion equity-driven solutions.

· Facilitate workshops, consultations, and skill-building series (e.g. FoodFit, urban agriculture, food preservation) that build local capacity, resident leadership, and sustainable community-led projects.

· Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor staff, students, peer leaders, and volunteers working under the food security portfolio.

· Represent ACSA in external coalitions, community networks, and partnerships, while supporting communications and outreach activities to increase program visibility.

About you:

· Post-secondary education in Social Services, Social Work, Nutrition, Environmental Studies, Public Health, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional training in food security or community engagement is an asset.

· Minimum 2 years of experience supporting food security programs, community development, urban agriculture, or resident-led projects. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and volunteers, managing budgets, and preparing funder reports.

· Deep understanding of food security and food justice principles, health equity, systemic barriers to food access, and community capacity-building approaches.

· Knowledge of Scarborough neighbourhoods (specifically Steeles-L’Amoreaux and Dorset Park) and local food/gardening practices. Fluency in additional languages spoken within the community (e.g., Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi, or Dari) is a strong asset.

· Willingness to work flexible hours (including occasional evenings/weekends for resident events) and travel between local sites.
