What they need
About Us
Venture Forestry provides quality advice and a comprehensive range of services to owners and managers of forests and woodlots throughout Otago, Southland and the wider South Island.
Established in 2011, Venture Forestry has built a strong reputation for honesty, flexibility and reliability. Proud of their Southern roots, the team draws on the expertise and energy of forestry professionals to help clients to make the most of their forestry interests.
The team works with clients from the initial planning and planting phases, through to managing forests as they grow, and harvesting and log marketing.
The Role
We are looking for a Forestry Technician to join our team in Mosgiel.
This is a practical, hands-on outdoor role. Most of your work will involve forest inventory, including measuring plots, collecting data and recording information accurately. You will also help with planting and silviculture work, field audits and health and safety checks.
The role involves regular travel throughout the Otago and Southland area, and some nights away may be required.
About You
This role will suit someone who is fit, reliable and keen to build a career in forestry. You will be working outdoors in all weather and may walk up to 10km a day through steep or difficult terrain. Some days will be wet, cold and physically tough, so you will need a good attitude and the ability to keep going when conditions are challenging.
You will also need to be accurate and switched on. The field work is physical, but the data matters, so attention to detail is important.
To be successful, you will need:
- A full, clean drivers licence
- Good physical fitness and confidence working outdoors
- The ability to work safely and independently in the field
- Good attention to detail and the ability to record data accurately
- A reliable, practical and positive attitude
- To be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
Forestry experience would be useful, as would experience with 4WD driving, quad bikes, GPS or map reading, but these are not essential. Reliability and the right attitude will be your standout traits.
How to Apply
If you are fit, practical, enjoy the outdoors and motivated to develop a career in forestry, we want to hear from you!
Please apply via SEEK. For a confidential discussion or to request a copy of the job description, please contact Libby Evans: [email protected]
Applications close at 5:00pm on 30 September 2026. If this opportunity ticks your boxes and you have what it takes to be successful in this role, don't delay in submitting your application.
A cover letter and CV will be required, and you will need to have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
