Forklift Driver

We are seeking an experienced Forklift Driver with proven experience handling fabricated steel and structural steel products to join our client’s operations.

IMPORTANT – STEEL HANDLING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

This is NOT a warehouse pallet-moving position.

We are ONLY looking for forklift operators who have previous experience working in a steel yard, steel fabrication facility, structural steel environment, or corrosion protection yard.

You must be confident and experienced in safely handling large, long, heavy and irregularly shaped steel products, including:

• Structural steel beams and columns
• Steel pipes
• Fabricated steel components
• Steel sections from approximately 1 metre to 18+ metres long
• Tanks and large steel structures
• Frames and fabricated assemblies
• Long and awkward steel loads
• Other oversized fabricated steel products

Applicants whose forklift experience is limited to moving pallets, cartons, general warehouse stock or standard loads will not be suitable for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate forklifts to move fabricated and structural steel around the yard and facility
• Load and unload steel products from trucks and trailers
• Move long steel beams, columns, pipes, tanks and fabricated structures
• Position steel accurately in designated storage and work areas
• Safely manoeuvre oversized and irregular loads in confined areas
• Assist with loading steel for dispatch and delivery
• Work closely with crane operators, welders, fabricators and yard personnel
• Conduct pre-start inspections and report any equipment issues
• Follow site safety procedures and manual handling requirements
• Ensure steel products are secured and handled safely during movement
• Maintain a clean and organised work area

What We Are Looking For

The successful applicant will have:

• Proven forklift experience handling fabricated/structural steel
• Previous experience in a steel yard, fabrication yard, corrosion protection yard or similar environment
• Experience handling long steel products, including beams and columns up to 18+ metres
• Experience moving heavy, oversized and irregularly shaped loads
• Strong understanding of forklift stability and safe load handling
• Ability to work safely around other mobile plant and workers
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Current Australian Forklift Licence (LF)

Highly Desirable

• Experience in structural steel fabrication
• Experience in a corrosion protection/blasting and painting facility
• Experience loading/unloading steel transport vehicles
• Experience working around cranes and lifting equipment
• Dogging or rigging experience
• Experience handling oversized or project-based steel components

We specifically require someone who has physically handled fabricated and structural steel in a steel yard, fabrication facility or corrosion protection environment.

Pay: $30.00 – $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38.0 per week
