Forklift Mechanic

Elgin Metal Company is looking for a full-time mechanic to maintain and repair our in-house material handling and industrial equipment.

Our fleet is primarily electric forklifts, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, industrial batteries, and battery chargers.

This is a Monday-Friday, 40-hour-per-week position, with overtime regularly available.

Responsibilities include:

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain electric forklifts
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections
• Maintain and service industrial forklift batteries
• Troubleshoot and maintain battery chargers
• Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, and mechanical issues
• Perform mast, carriage, and general forklift repairs
• Maintain PM schedules and basic service records
• General mechanical repair of plant equipment as needed
• Welding and fabrication as needed
• Assist with semi-trailer and other equipment repairs when applicable

What we’re looking for:

• Forklift, industrial equipment, automotive, truck, or heavy-equipment repair experience
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Experience with industrial batteries and chargers is a plus
• Welding/fabrication experience is a plus
• Semi-trailer or truck repair experience is a plus
• Ability to work independently and solve problems

Schedule:
Monday-Friday
40 hours per week
Overtime regularly available

This is a full-time, permanent, in-house position maintaining our own equipment at one location.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and running properly.

Pay: $34.00 - $36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
