Forward Deployed Engineer-Trainee or Intern

About the role

We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) who sits directly with the client rather than behind a ticket queue. The FDE meets an operations stakeholder who describes a problem imperfectly, works out what is genuinely worth solving, scopes a deliverable within approximately 45 days, then builds and ships it end to end. This is a hands-on delivery role, not a research or pre-sales position. The role is structured across a progression from FDE-1 to FDE-2, with FDE-2 taking on end-to-end ownership of a proof-of-concept and pairing with a junior colleague on live work.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build agent and RAG orchestration workflows for client use cases.
• Apply prompt engineering and, where needed, fine-tuning to improve solution performance.
• Build evaluation and guardrail mechanisms to ensure solution quality and safety.
• Build end-to-end data pipelines, APIs, and microservice integrations.
• Deploy solutions into production and debug issues across the stack.
• Integrate with the client's existing systems, data, and security constraints.
• Run discovery and scoping to translate business pain into a deliverable specification.
• Convert messy, non-standard business processes into clear SOPs.
• Deliver a working proof-of-concept within approximately 45 days, then take it toward production.
• Manage cross-functional and cross-cultural collaboration with client stakeholders.

About you

• Experience taking at least one system to production, with direct stakeholder exposure.
• Track record across the AI lifecycle, from discovery through POC/MVP to scaled delivery.
• Comfortable working from incomplete requirements, with the judgement to say no to scope that won't fit.
• Strong Python across the stack: APIs, data pipelines, and cloud services.
• Hands-on experience with modern AI application development: LLM integration, RAG, agents, and evaluation.
• Strong client communication skills; able to manage expectations under pressure.
• Self-directed, with sound judgement on scope and prioritisation.
• Certification on Azure AI, Databricks, AWS, or Huawei Cloud is an advantage (nice to have).
• Financial services, manufacturing, or consulting background is an advantage (nice to have).
