At OzChild, we believe every child deserves to be safe, respected, nurtured and supported to reach their full potential. Since 1851, we have been working alongside children, young people and families to create brighter futures and lasting change.

We’re looking for a passionate Case Manager to join our ACT Foster Care team in Bruce, Canberra, helping children and young people achieve positive outcomes while supporting and developing confident, capable foster carers.

Come on a journey of continuous learning where you can bring your values to work, be yourself and make a meaningful difference every day.

Your role

This is an opportunity to combine your case management expertise, relationship-building skills and commitment to child-centred practice. You’ll manage foster care placements, support carers and work towards permanency outcomes, including reunification with birth families wherever appropriate and safe.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing foster care placements and supporting the safety, development and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing assessments, care plans and placement plans.
  • Conducting regular visits to children and foster carers, with travel required across the ACT.
  • Supporting, supervising and developing foster carers to build their confidence and capability.
  • Working towards safe and sustainable reunification outcomes and maintaining positive family connections.
  • Assessing foster carers and identifying suitable placement opportunities for children and young people.
  • Collaborating with families, government agencies and community professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, documentation and compliance with child protection and quality requirements.

About you

You’re a compassionate and motivated professional who understands the complexities of foster care and is committed to advocating for children and young people. You can build trusting relationships, navigate challenging situations and balance the needs of children, families and foster carers.

To be successful, you’ll bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in  Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology or a related discipline, consistent with the position description's qualification requirements.
  • Case management experience, ideally within foster care, out-of-home care or child protection.
  • Strong knowledge of the foster care system and the needs of children in alternative care.
  • Experience conducting assessments in a foster care context.
  • Strong communication, assessment, problem-solving and professional judgement skills.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, carers and stakeholders.
  • A current driver's licence and access to reliable transport.

Please refer to the position description for the full list of qualifications, skills and experience.

Why join OzChild?

  • Permanent full-time opportunity based in Canberra.
  • SCHADS Level 5 – $100,577.68 per annum plus superannuation.

  • Additional ex-gratia days at Easter and Christmas.
  • Two days working from home, subject to operational requirements.
  • A unique training and professional development journey.
  • A collaborative and supportive team culture that values diversity, cultural competence and shared values.
  • The opportunity to contribute to meaningful outcomes for children, young people and foster carers.
