What they need

BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT

For over 30 years, McMan has been providing foster care services in Edmonton and Northern Alberta. Our foster care programs offer safe, caring homes to children who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to live with their own families. While a foster home is usually temporary, our ultimate goal is to help children return to their families or be adopted, ensuring their journey is filled with love, hope, and stability.

  • Do you see yourself as caring, patient, and flexible?

  • Do you believe that relationships and respect have a positive influence on child development?

  • Can you communicate effectively and professionally with other team members?

If these statements describe you, then fostering may be right for you!

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for compassionate caregivers who believe in the importance of natural connections in a child/youth’s life. Foster caregivers are expected to be actively engaged with the biological family/family of origin and the siblings of children and youth in their care. If you are ready to provide love, stability, and care for vulnerable children, we encourage you to apply and become part of the McMan family.

McMan Edmonton and Northern Alberta, including areas such as Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, Bonnyville, Edson, Cold Lake and surrounding communities.

Foster Parent Responsibilities:

  • Provide for the emotional, social, educational, and physical needs of the child(ren) in your care
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals to create and implement a care plan that supports each child’s goals and development
  • Facilitate and support family connections when appropriate, as directed by the case team
  • Commit to ongoing learning and development, including attending training to ensure you are equipped to provide trauma-informed care
  • Maintain documentation and reporting in accordance with McMan’s policies and guidelines

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years and older, have Canadian citizenship or have permanent residency status in Canada.
  • Applicants must own or rent their own home.
  • Applicants must own a reliable and insured vehicle and be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
  • You are able to provide a clear Child Intervention Check.
  • You are able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • In alignment with the Government of Alberta’s requirements, prospective foster parents must meet specific criteria. Each application is considered carefully to ensure the best fit.
  • We’re here to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have!

To begin, applicants will:

  • Submit an application to foster with McMan Edmonton and Northen Alberta.
  • Complete required background checks for all adults living in the home
  • Complete PRIDE pre-service training modules online
  • Complete an approved SAFE Home Study
  • Once approved, complete a licensing package and home inspection

What We Offer:
We are committed to supporting you throughout your journey as a foster parent. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Dedicated Foster Care worker assigned to your family.
  • Monthly and as-needed meetings for ongoing support
  • Access to a 24-hour on-call system for assistance
  • Advocacy and connection with other foster parents.
