Founding Design Engineer

Context

World Class Design is partnering with a stealth-mode venture-backed agritech startup redefining cocoa and coffee supply chains for the benefit of farmers, manufacturers, and the planet. For decades, agricultural commodity supply chains have struggled with fragmentation, limited transparency, and poor outcomes for smallholder farmers. This company believes the future of agricultural sourcing is direct, transparent, and regenerative.

They build the digital infrastructure that makes this possible: mobile and web products that help farmer cooperatives manage their operations, collect and verify data, demonstrate compliance, and connect directly with global buyers. Their technology is already used by cooperatives and companies across Africa and Latin America, supporting more than 150,000 farmers. Backed by leading food and agriculture investors, they are building a small, ambitious team to become the technology and operational infrastructure behind the next generation of agricultural supply chains.

Missions

• Own the product roadmap for Peru: understand customer and user problems, identify opportunities, set priorities, and decide what should be built
• Design across web and Android: turn complex operational, data, and compliance workflows into intuitive experiences across their web platform and native Android application
• Build and ship across platforms: prototype and implement production-quality features yourself across web and Android, using AI-native development tools to move quickly from idea to working product
• Work directly with customers and users: spend time with cooperatives and field teams, gather feedback, support accounts, and turn what you learn into better products
• Drive adoption and growth: understand why users adopt or don’t adopt features, experiment with ways to increase engagement, and help make the product successful in Peru
• Own the full product loop: from research and prioritization through design, implementation, rollout, support, measurement, and iteration
• Collaborate with engineering: work with engineers on backend, infrastructure, and technically complex problems while retaining ownership of the overall product experience
• Build for scale: create reusable components and patterns that allow what works in Peru to expand efficiently into other Latin American markets
• Work AI-natively: use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor to explore, prototype, build, test, and ship faster
• Spend time in the field: travel regularly to Peru and potentially other markets to work directly with the people using what you build

Working Conditions

• Location: Paris, France with regular travel to Peru and other parts of Latin America
• Compensation: EUR 80k salary plus a generous stock package
• Opportunity to work in a small international team with direct access to founders
• High ownership role with autonomy over product decisions and execution
• Potential to expand ownership into new Latin American markets such as Ecuador
• Possibility to spend a couple of months each year working remotely from South America

1. Strong experience designing and building digital products end-to-end, ideally in an early-stage startup or similarly high-ownership environment

2. Founder, founding-team or early-stage startup experience with broad role ownership

3. Excellent product judgment: ability to talk to customers, identify problems, prioritize needs, and translate ambiguity into clear product direction

4. A strong portfolio of shipped products, especially complex workflows, B2B software, data-rich products, or operational tools

5. Strong product design and UX skills with a high bar for craft and usability

6. Hands-on experience building and shipping both web and mobile applications, including Android applications, comfortable working directly in production mobile codebases

7. Strong front-end fundamentals with modern web technologies such as TypeScript and React, alongside experience with Android development

8. Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent as a core part of development

9. Strong communication and organizational skills, able to manage multiple customers, priorities, and workstreams independently

10. Fluent English and Spanish (mandatory)

11. Willingness to travel regularly to Peru and potentially elsewhere in Latin America
