What they need
An AI-powered hiring platform is transforming how hardtech companies evaluate engineering talent across industries including aerospace, defense, robotics, automotive and energy. Its technology replicates realistic engineering workflows and enables companies to assess candidates through practical, scenario-based simulations rather than relying solely on traditional interviews and resumes.
The company is looking for a Founding Electrical Engineer to help define how leading space & defense, manufacturing and robotics companies evaluate their next generation of electrical engineers. This is a highly technical and externally facing role combining hands-on electrical engineering expertise with assessment design, industry research and product development. You'll work directly with engineering leaders at deeptech companies, build a foundational taxonomy of electrical engineering skills and manage a team of EE contractors and interns.
This would be a hybrid position in Mission Bay, San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design realistic, scenario-based technical assessments covering areas such as PCB design, schematic design and circuit analysis.
- Develop engineering simulations and evaluation scenarios that accurately reflect the real-world workflows and technical judgment expected of electrical engineers.
- Work directly with Engineering Directors, VPs and other senior technical leaders at leading deeptech companies to understand their engineering workflows and translate them into tailored evaluations.
- Lead a foundational research initiative to create a comprehensive taxonomy of electrical engineering skills, domains and competency areas.
- Define how electrical engineering expertise can be evaluated consistently across different industries, company environments and levels of seniority.
- Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineering contractors and interns, assigning work and ensuring the technical quality and consistency of assessments.
- Collaborate closely with the founder and other engineering domain leads to shape the assessment platform, product direction and technical content.
- Bring practical engineering judgment to the development of new assessment methodologies and identify gaps in existing evaluation approaches.
- Stay current with emerging electrical engineering technologies, tools and practices across space, defense, robotics and advanced manufacturing.
Key Qualifications:
- 4–10 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
- Experience working as an electrical engineer within a space & defense company is strongly preferred, ideally within a high-growth or later-stage organization.
- Senior Engineer-level experience or above, with demonstrated technical ownership.
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Broad understanding across multiple EE domains, such as power electronics, avionics, embedded systems and controls.
- Strong hands-on experience with end-to-end PCB and schematic design.
- Proficiency with ECAD tools such as Altium, KiCad or Cadence.
- Experience interviewing, mentoring or managing junior electrical engineers.
- Strong ability to hold detailed technical conversations with Engineering Directors, VPs and other senior technical stakeholders.
- Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear evaluation criteria.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and genuine curiosity about electrical engineering beyond the requirements of your day-to-day role.
- Experience building side projects, experimenting with hardware or independently exploring new EE topics is highly valued.
- Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate, with a hybrid working model in Mission Bay, San Francisco .
