What they need
About the role
Muar LNG (MLNG) is building an LNG bunkering, transhipment and regasification terminal at Maharani Energy Gateway in Muar, Malaysia – the first of its kind on the Malacca Strait. Today the company is a handful of people and a lot of paper. Within a few years it should be a working terminal loading ships. We are hiring the first engineer who will help take it from one to the other.
You will hold the construction budget and the master schedule. You will run the vendor enquiries, sit in on the negotiations, and handle the day-to-day correspondence with contractors and consultants. You will do the first pass on engineering questions before they reach the Technical Manager. In most companies each of these is a separate department. Here they are one desk, and it is yours.
What this job is, and is not
The founders are serial entrepreneurs who have built and sold offshore and energy companies before. They work until the problem is solved, not until six o’clock, and they expect the same from the people beside them. In return you get something no MNC graduate scheme offers: you will see how a terminal actually gets financed, permitted, procured and built, from the inside, in your first two years out of university.
The compensation is the exposure. If you are optimising for salary this year, this is the wrong job. If you are optimising for what you will be able to do in five years, it may be the right one. The person who does this well will run project controls for the terminal by the time construction starts.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain the construction budget and cost forecast.
- Own and maintain the project schedule; chase the people who are late.
- Prepare vendor enquiries, chase and compare quotations, and write up recommendations.
- Run contractor correspondence and document control so that nothing is lost and everything can be found.
- Take first cut at engineering questions and analyses for the Technical Manager and CEO.
About you
- An engineering degree – marine, naval architecture, mechanical or electrical is the natural fit. If yours is something else and you can show us you can do the work, apply anyway.
- At least a year of real engineering work. More is fine; fifteen years is not – this is a first or second job.
- Someone who writes clearly. Most of this job is done in writing, to vendors and contractors who do not share your first language.
- Someone who has taught themselves something we can check: a piece of software, a certification you paid for yourself, a language, a trade. Tell us what and why.
- Someone with opinions about how the marine or energy industry should work, and the humility to change them when the numbers say otherwise.
- Singapore Citizen or otherwise able to work in Singapore without a quota-dependent pass.
How to apply
Send the following to [email protected] by Friday 16 October 2026. Applications without all three parts will not be read.
- Your CV.
- One page, with numbers, on whether LNG bunkering in the Malacca Strait will or will not work commercially over the next ten years, and why. We are not looking for the right answer; we are looking at how you think and how you write.
- No more than 150 words on something you built, fixed, organised or learned that nobody asked you to. Be specific: what, when, what went wrong, what happened.
Use whatever tools you like to research the one-pager. The thinking has to be yours: expect to defend it, line by line, in the interview.
Before you write, read about the terminal at www.muarlng.com and look up the people you would be working for:
- Hans Jacob Hvide – linkedin.com/in/hans-j-hvide-b992984b
- He Yiyong – linkedin.com/in/yiyong-he-9680b519b
We read every complete application ourselves and reply to all of them.
Other offers great for you!
